hold the power button, while holding the power button poke the reset hole in the back. Once the the palm boot up logo comes up, let go of the power button. Push up for "yes" and now all your data is gone but it should be running again.

While holding the Power button, use a sharp object, preferably the reset pin supplied with your stylus and poke in the reset hole at the back of your Clie. Do not let go of the power button. Hold it for about five seconds. Six if you like. After letting go of the power button, your Clie screen will come out with a statement asking you whether you would like to perform a hard reset. You will have to make that decision yourself. If you have finally decided to do a hard reset, push the up button on your Clie. It will then perform a hard reset on your Clie.

Inthetin - It is possible to get your Clie in a processor loop that is so "tight" that it can't see the hardware reset (I have had it happen to me on my old N710C). I finally had to pull the case back off and unplug the processor from the battery. It was able to hard reset after that. If you are driving an NR you should be able to unplug the battery through the battery port....I think. I haven't had to try it myself. I don't know if there are any other ramifications to this on the NR series. There were none on the 710.

And all I did was stick a toothpick in that little hole on the back of my Clie. Everything returned to normal after that nasty Fatal Error. Now, I heard you have to do a Hard Reset if you get the message I got. I don't know if that pinhole I stuck was a "Hard Reset" but everything I downloaded was still there. Just call me Cleetus......y'all wanna drink o' moonshine?

thx to all, your instructions helped, "pigburger's" note about the timing on the logo appearing before the pin is let go that did the trick. thx again.

Despite knowing how to hard reset my clie got so locked up not even that would work. In desperation i let the battery run flat and then recharged it.
Worked ok after that
