I am a former ATT wireless now Cingular user. My phone needs to be replaced but I don't want to change plans as my old ATT plan is awesome and cheap. If I get a new phone through Cingular, it seems they insist that I "upgrade" (actually downgrade) my plan for a LOT more money per month.

Is there someway I can replace the phone without going through Cingular? I'm not trying to break the law. I just don't want to give up my plan.

Thanks for your help.

Hmmm. No one is answering. Does that mean there's no way to do it?

Thanks for your help.

Cingular and AT&T use GSM, so if your phone isn't locked, then you can pull the SIM chip out of that phone and put it into a new GSM phone. This will transfer your phone number and all of your contact info that you stored on it.

If it is locked, call customer service and ask them to unlock it. It might take a few phone calls, but keep on them. I've heard plenty of Cingular peeps saying they were able to get their phones unlocked and since you've been with AT&T for so long, it would only work towards your advantage.
