PalmPDF can convert them on your handheld. (It can also display them as unconverted .pdf files, of course.)

Thanks, I might look into that. If possible, I would prefer to convert them prior to transfering them to the handheld though. That way I dont have to carry out uneccessary conversion using up time and battery life.
Also, when I open a document in eReader it asks for my name and CC number for unlocking purposes. Is this only required for books that are purchased from online retails (eg. ereader.com)

Yes. In fact it's even less invasive than that. Once you've unlocked a book with your name and credit card then other books purchased with the same name and credit card will automatically be deemed to be unlocked on that device so you only need to enter the info once and, until you do a hard reset, you'll not need the info again.
One consequence of this though is that if you change your credit card then you should make sure you keep a record of the old card number otherwise in a year's time if you hard reset you could have problems unlocking your old books.

I can't tell you how to do it for eReader... But I can tell you how to convert just about anything for Plucker (which is why I have both) if you're interested :-)

You can convert PDF documents with Mobipocket and read them with Mobipoket reader (it's free), it does a very good job with conversion; another good tool is PdaConverter (free too), get it at : www.jakewalk.de , with this program you can converto to: Doc, Plucker an .txt and zTxt.

I just save the pdf as text, then convert via makedocw (for generic DOC format) or dropbook (for eReader).

Docstogo Palmdoc format is readable within ereader too...and iSilo.
Similar process - copy PDF text, paste into a word doc, then convert to palmdoc in docstogo.

There is a **FREE** way to convert from PDF, I have been converting lots of pdfs **WITH IMAGES** for ages now using pdf2html from sourceforge :
http://pdftohtml.sourceforge.net/ is the homepage
It has not been updated for a while, but works excellently
If you need to convert pictures in the pdf document, you will need to install ghostscript from :
http://sourceforge.net/project/show...lease_id=321615
Install ghostscript first, then pdf2html, I also downloaded the windows gui at http://guiguy.wminds.com/downloads/pdf2htmlgui/ and run this, as I said it works perfectly (not sure about protected documents though)
It basically takes you original pdf file and dumps the text and images out into a directory you specify as a html page(s), there a options for style of resulting html I tried a few before I found one I liked and looked good.
The resulting html / piccies I then run through Isilo Converter, as I use Isilo as my onboard reader, I find this works for me YMMV.
