Well, it appears that my brand-new LifeDrive (bought Saturday) may have failed. I believe it might have been damaged in shipping, but it was working fine until about 30 minutes ago.

Using Addit, I attempted to install the Lifedrive Printboy (it was free, after all). I hit 'try' and then told my LD to do a wireless Addit sync, which it proceded to do. It was taking forever, so I headed downstairs and setup one of my printers as a shared printer, to test it with. When I get back upstairs, the LD was resseting. "Oh ****" is my first thought... I figured that maybe it needed to reset after installing printboy, so I waited.... and Ka- boom, another reset... And another. A reset loop! Eeep!

I performed a Soft-Reset semi-successfully... I got into the 'Preferences' window, but attempting to go into Launcher started another Reset-loop. I think "Ok. That sucks. But I just hotsynced 5 minutes ago and all that's on the drive is music. I can restore that pretty quick." (I have a password, so no non-erasing for me.

Bad news: Something went wrong between holding the power switch over and hitting the reset button. The LifeDrive screen popped up for less than a second, and then blackness. It hasn't come back up yet. I'm hoping that the battery just ran down, but if not, it's going back to Staples for a return tommorow. I'd like to warn everyone the Printboy is apparently not good for a wireless Addit sync!

Installed Software:
Ptune Deluxe
Minesweeper
PalmaryClock Trial
Xiino Trial
Mobipocket 4.9(i think it's 4.9)
Warfare Inc
Due Yesterday
TCPMP
Oxford Dict
Knowledge Tree
Lifedrive 2.0 Update
upIRC
PSSH
PTelnet

I know that there is a bit more... But I can't remember what else I have.

The box was slightly damaged, and the LD was not quite sitting where it should in the box, so shipping damage is a possibilty. I have been EXTREMELY careful with it. (Only got it Saturday!) Also, A -very- light shaking reveals that the HDD arm has not latched into the locked position, which is dangerous for the drive. The LD very recently developped the screen whine (last night, although I might not have noticed it before) and seemed to have white noise in the audio system- even when nothing is playing, if an audio app such as TCPMP or pTunes is started, a slight hiss will come out of the headphones or speaker if the headphones are not plugged in. Turning Bluetooth on and off fixes this for some reason.... A slight whine could be heard through headphones when the drive is accessed.

If -anyone- can offer advice at this point, please do! I -like- the lifedrive, and posted a semi-review with my findings over at my blog, aesopfable.wordpress.com with my feelings about it. Even if it's fried, I'll still go with the LD.

If it manages to revive itself, I'll be sure to post ASAP.

Check software compatibility list at palmfocus.com. Reset loops are indicative of incompatible third party app.

Two problems with that:

1. This is the printboy software especially designed for the Lifedrive
2. It no longer turns on.

I believe I said both of those in my first post, but it bears repeating.

I have seen that kind of thing happen when there is a corrupt application on the device, and the corruption includes the application's icon. The application launcher tries to display the icon... bomb. The reset completes, the application launcher starts and tries to display the icon ... bomb.

Hmm, I could see that this might have been caused by a pre-mature disconnect. Check the Hotsync Log for the session where Print Boy was installed to see if it says anything special.

All I can say it that I also have PrintBoy LifeDrive Edition on my device that I got via Addit. However, I have not had any such problem, but I had used a standard USB sync when fetching it.

Well, I've exchanged it for a new Lifedrive, I'll make sure to only install via wired sync from now on.

Also, new palm doesn't have speaker hiss or screen wine. Yay!
