Only the Asian version was released last week, not the USA version.

the instructions on the site say to do a soft reset before installing. Doesn't a soft reset, get rid of all my settings? I really don't feel like setting all my preferences again.

The new Clie Viewer for the NX 70.....works great..... about like the viewer on my old NR. Loads from MS fast too.

Soft reset does not get rid of settings it's more like a restart on a pc. A hard restet will return your clie to factory settings and lose all memory.

What about all 11 files that it generates?

I must'a missed the "soft reset" prior to install part on the Clie Viewer upgrade for the NX70. Didn't do it.....didn't hurt it! New viewer is cooking along like it was meant to. But that's just me. Be your own "best advisior". A soft reset hurts nothing....in my humble opinion.

Nice! Definitely speedier than 1.0. I hadn't stepped up to AcidImage yet, but was considering; now I'm not sure that I will.

Inquiring minds want to know.

The download website says that 624KB of memory is needed for installation. Does this mean that I will lose more than half a meg of precious ram if I install the new version?

Yes sir! It adds 11 files to RAM and maybe 350K.

I just installed it on my NZ. 2.2 megs before install and 2.2 megs after install....So where'd it go? It is the updated version (1.1).Faster in a different sort of way, loads everything quickly and builds thumbs as you go. It seems to hold the thumbs if you scroll back to them too.
I still prefer Acid Image, but the new viewer is quick enough to consider using the album app now....

Try deleting it and see if it frees up more memory. It's definitely stored in RAM. This new version is a little better, but not that much better. No reason to avoid getting AcidImage, IMO.

Actually, you need this much free space for the installer program to work. The actual memory used for the updated files is only 295K. In other words you will loose 295k free memory.

Heck yeah!,

Definately faster

OK, faster than what? 1.0 was slow as hell, 1.1 that I got like a week ago, I already have.. is it faster than the 1.1 released like a week ago? if not... please kill this thread.. :) thanks.

May take up RAM but you can move it to your MS just the same as you can move the updated clefiles to MS as well.

This is definatly an improvement over the original version, and it's great to see that Sony is continuing to improve the NX series software!

I only have one problem with Clie Viewer that keeps me going back to AcidImage: It doesn't cache the thumbnail images. Each time I launch the app, it has to rebuild the thumbnails. AcidImage caches them so they instantly appear upon succeeding launches. I have close to 100 pictures, which makes Clie Viewer unusable for me. Also, AcidImage recognizes pictures organized in other directories while Clie Viewer is limited to the default directory. Additionally, AcidImage will display other image types such as .bmp and .gif. If you are a casual picture viewer, then by all means, download and install this update to Clie Viewer. If you have a lot of pictures, then consider AcidImage.

There's a warning on Sony's website:

IMPORTANT NOTES: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY.

This utility is only for use with the following Sony® CLIÉ™ Handhelds sold in the United States: PEG-NX60
PEG-NX70V
PEG-NZ90

Does it mean that I cannot use this update for my NX70V what I bought in Europe?

Did you look at Sony's Asian Support Site? I don't have the link. I believe the update was the same for all, irrespective of the warnings.

I installed the update, but now I have 2 icons for the Clie Viewer. Does anybody else have this problem? How do I get rid of the extra icon?

Same problem, after clicking each icon, both of them say version 1.1. After dragging one of them to the recycle bin, the remaing icon say version 1.0.

Did you install to RAM? If you installed it to the MS, then you'll have two icons! The same thing if installed to flash. You can NOT delete the old one as it is in ROM. The new version should mask the old version if installed to RAM. In some launchers, you may need to manually refresh it.

Actually, soft resets (are they the ones that happen when you just poke the reset hole?) annoy the heck out of me because they reset the music player to sequential stop-at-playlist-end play (as opposed to shuffle continuous), and it resets my silkscreen (I've got a TNSilkChanger silkscreen) ...

I installed the CLIE Viewer update directly into RAM and it also shows up as a second icon in Launcher X but not in the CLIE Launcher. Both icons launch the same version 1.1. If using Launcher X you can move one of the CLIE Viewer icons to a category you hide. I imagine this probably happens on other launchers too.
By the way, the CLIE Files upgrade also will display two icons in Launcher X.

Okay on the launcherX and having to hide it. It's not that way in ZLauncher, unless it's installed to the MS like I have done!

Thats the answer. I use LauncherX. After refreshing the screen the second icon disappeared.
