Locked applications on Sony Clie SJ22

I have a Sony SJ22 that I cannot Sync to. In MSGate, applications including Calender, Address Book, and To Do's show a lock icon beside the application name. Can these app's be unlocked?

MSGate is really an awful file manager. A great freeware alternative is FileZ, available in the freeware section of 1src. I would caution you, though, against fooling around with built-in ROM apps like Datebook, To Do's, etc. These are locked on purpose. You could cause a serious problem that might render your SJ useless.

Try to get back on track with a hard reset of the SJ. See if it will sync. If not, uninstall and reinstall the Sony software. If you could sync before, there is no reason why you can't make it work again.

May I ask why? If you mess with those, you could screw your handheld... ;) :(

I have tried both reinstalling the software and a hard reset of the handheld, which resulted in an erase of all data. The applications still show as locked in MSGate???

Why you would want to risk frying your device is beyond my comprehension. Let me rephrase...Address, To Do, etc. are locked by Sony/PalmOS on purpose; probably to prevent users from deleting important information they may have on their handhelds. As I said previously, MSGate is a lousy file manager. If you want to take a shot at unlocking those apps, you need a more powerful file manager like FileZ. Once you have that tool, you are on you own.
