there is a new alternative named "NoviiRemote"
http://www.palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?prodID=46448

They say it does not yet support Sony NX/NZ devices but will support in later releases.
a new hope...

I got my hopes up too when I saw that this remote supported OS5 on Palmgear. I gave it a try but i get a fatal reset every time I press a button. guess it only supports tungsten OS5

They discuss this in another thread. Others have stated that the Noviiremote does not yet function with the NX. I release is supposed to be coming out soon.

they have been saying it for months. I got after them claiming os-5 support when it would not run on any os-5 machines. now it finally runs on the tt but thats all. thats not os-5 support.

I contacted the developer of Noviiremote last Thursday, and he responded to me on Saturday. I asked him when exactly the app would be available for the NX, and he said "within a month".

I'll believe it when I see it, but this is coming straight from the horse's mouth...

It's the same old story with the lack of Sony's API's :(

Just download omniremote. and all you do is program a certain remote to the buttons in the application and you have the same control on your clie. i love it i got the full version would could download it at http://palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?prodID=1878

omniremote doesn't work with the high power ir on the nz90 yet, i didn't think it worked with the nx series - what range are you getting?

There is nothing standard about Sony..

I've had Omniremote on my NX. It doesn't take advantage of the enhanced IR. It's useful at short distances though when you can't find your dedicated remote. I can't wait for a remote program to be released for OS5 that will function on the NX/NZ series.

Noviiremote is fabulous! just fabulous. It works great on an m505 hope they port it to the nx hardware soon.

We'll see. I've set a reminder for 1 month.

even if NoviiRemote supports NX hardware I guess it won't benefit from high power ir range.
I can only see if I see it.

There is also a yahoo group dedicated to RMC. You may be able to get what you're looking for there.

Why is RMC such an issue? What am I missing with my Clie?

I would love a Sony Clie RMC that would work with my satellite TV receiver. Anyone know of an option there?

Join this group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RMCEnhancer/ I'm pretty sure they have an addon compatible with rca sat recievers.

Well folks i have finally got the remote to work with my TV.

Thanks to meir87 for getting the ball rolling. The only thing that i have to use two settings if a want the FULL functionality of my prevous remote.

I currently use:

Button A

Maker: Magnavox Mode: 1

Button B

Maker: Philips Mode: 3

Why do i use two settings? Well simple.....

On the Magnavox setting the Input button works and the Menu button doesnt.

On the Philips setting the Input button does not work and the Menu button does.

I dont use the Philips setting alot however its still handy to have.

So combine these two settings and i have saved myself around $50.00.

I guess the maing thing here is to go through all the setting and test everything. You never know another manufacturers setting might work with your device.

aussie_nx70v,

You may create yourself a new definition file with RMC enhancer software (also found on the Yahoo group files)
AND get all your needed buttons in one screen.

You should give it a try...

the buttons are there in both settings. its just that either button wont work depending on what setting im using.

all the other buttons work exactly the same. therefore what i would need to do is somehow combine both settings, i.e. Magnavox & Phillips to get a brand new setting.

is that correct?

ilkera

yes that's correct and you can do it by RMC Enhancer

I have been to the yahoo groups site for the RMCEnhancer, but it is VERY difficult to find any decent help pages on creating your own definition files. There are only on or two people who post to the group that know what they are doing! Do anyone here have a good tutorial on how to create your own RMC defs? If so, sharing it with the rest of us would be a GREAT help!!!!

I'd be keen on that - I've had a little play with RMC enhancer and it sure could use a HOWTO guide :)

Does anyone know what exactly is the issue with OS5 on NX's and remote control software? Why is it so difficult to write remote control software for the NX?

For the same reaso you can't have a different audio player or camera app. Sony won't release the api for the extended ir.

Grey
12-13-2003, 06:50 AM
It's even available, just not officially released so not ok for companies to sell stuff using it :( :( :(

ilkera

well then someone (maybe OmniRemote's developer - PasificNeoTek) can now write a learning remote controller for Sony enhanced irda ?...

Why not ?

Grey
12-15-2003, 06:38 PM
If I understand it properly, because Sony will rip them a new hole to bleed money out of if they do that - it's a reverse engineered API -> a form of intellectual property copyright violation.

I suspect it's also just that Pacific NeoTek are not keen on incurring Sony's wrath, be it legal or not. Sucky, but also very understandable.

then we may expect from a small developer to produce such a software as freeware maybe. just to give them a lesson...
If I had the ability I wouldnotwait a second...
