Hi all! Hope everyone's week is starting off with more sleep than mine.

I've got a nx80v sitting on my desk that needs some lovin'. I'm trying to bring it back to life but the main board seems to have gasped it's last and I'm missing both parts of the power/hold switch. If anyone has an 80v that's taken an ice pick through the screen or something I'd appreciate the chance to purchase it.

Thanks for your time, I look forward to trading info here!

Same here, started making continuous morse code noises, depleting the battery in the process. Suspect motherboard has got a problem! Pity, as otherwise it's fine, except for the broken power switch. Moved on to one of my two spare TH55s! :)

I'm not sure if I'd have any better luck on a second attempt, but would you be willing to sell your broken 80v? Since this seems to be a recurring problem I'd like to try and figure out what's causing it (hopefully not a faulty ROM chip or something else out of my league).

I doubt there's much hope that Sony will admit they screwed something up.

I revived it!! :D
I was missing the bright screen already, so I took another look at it and decided to open it up!
Removed the battery, sprayed switch cleaner all over the place, disconnected some miniature contactors on the motherboard in the hope of lifting it up. Gave up when I realised I was going to break something!
Put it back together again, but was completely dead now!!
Opened it up again, repositionned the looms in the micro contactors, closed it up and this time, she sprung to life again! No constant morse code anymore.
No more freezing up when I try to assign a new function to hard buttons. Works as good as the first day I had her!
TH55 back to the cobwebs again! Wohoo!!
Hope it lasts for another year at least...

Well, I'm glad to hear that your problems had a happy ending! Is the th55 screen that dim? I'd considered trying to snag one of those at one point, but I love the clamshell design a bit too much.

That still leaves me with a boardless clie here, though. Would anyone be interested in it? As far as I can tell everything besides the board works fine, I was able to test the camera and screen before it went haywire.

I'd also like to get my hands on an pega-spc100k, so if someone has one of those lying around perhaps we can make a deal.

TH55 screen is fine indoors, but in bright conditions, it becomes very frustrating indeed. The screen is also prone to display unwanted artifacts, making hand-writing recognition difficult.
It is still one of the best PDAs around, but have a look at the Palm TX before you make your mind up.
Try eBay if you decide to get rid of your NX80. There's always someone looking for spare parts. Don't expect to get too much for it, as people don't bother fixing them anymore, opting for a brand new Palm instead!

Well, I just snagged a ux40 on ebay last night, so I probably will sell the nx80 for parts. Between the nr70, nx70 and ux40 my lust for gadgetry should be sated for at least a week ^_^

My NR-70 is still going great guns, logging thousands of hours of 'TexTwist' and 'Bejeweled', courtesy of my wife!
Tried to like my UX-50, but the battery life and screen size are just too awful! So it's just sitting there, as a standby of last resort. Hope your experience with the little laptop turns out better than mine.
