View Full Version : Agendus backgrounds?
I can't find any links to freeware Agendus backgrounds on Iambic's site (for obvious reasons). Does anyone know of anywhere to get some?
Thanks!

You realize that there are backgrounds available on this site, right?
Check Freeware/Backgrounds..
Sorry, there appears to be a bug on the TX where 'Stretch doesn't work so any backgrounds are centered and a 480x480 background is displayed as 320x320 in the center of the screen (when you have the graffitti hidden. I thought this was just how it works but it definitely seems to be a real bug. :(
So, I have to resize backgrounds to 390x480 to get them to display correctly. The manual does state they need to be 390x480 but Iambic themselves distribute backgrounds in 480x480!

The manual clearly states what size the image needs to be so to say that it's a bug - that's not accurate, IMHO. Please don't call it a bug when the manual says to format it a certain way. It would be nice if things were automatically sized but this is not the fault of Agendus.
The reason that backgrounds are distrubuted in 480 X 480 is so they can be used in multiple environments and on other devices including computers.
And you may want to note the manual says (per the attached) 320 X 390 for the landscape mode.

Could you explain what 'stretch' is supposed to do then? Per all other applications I've used stretch would make the image fit in the available area. There are bands at the top and bottom of the screen if you currewntly use 'stretch'.
I would say it is accurate that it is a bug. It may be a documentation or marketing issue that the wrong term is used for that function, but other users have also had issue with this so I would say there is something to be fixed.
I'm an SQA lead and I would definitely submit this as an issue and fight any developer that defends it as 'it's a feature, not a bug' because it is contrary to conventional functionality and confusing to the end user.
OK, my bad - it seems jpg stretching isn't supported. But I would hope that these issues be resolved since this makes Agendus even behing Palm's datebook in the way backgrounds are displayed. I would love it if it were as easy.
I made a few custom backgrounds to work on my TX, thought I'd share them:

Well without seeing your screen - your image will not cover the entire screen. It will not cover the top nor bottom icons or menu's. If you are attempting to "stretch" the image to cover these areas - that's not going to happen.
Perhaps "Stretch" doesn't work the way that you'd prefer and perhaps it is the wrong nomenclature or term to use but since the manual specfies what size and format you should use for the landscape Palm devices - then I still wouldn't consider it a bug unless something is different than what I'm assuming - a screen shot would be good and the actual image your attempting to use as an attachment to this thread would also benefit the engineers.
Anyone trying to use .jpgs for backgrounds on a 320x480 device should have seen this issue, I'm sure it's no mystery to the developers.
Here's a screenshot from the Iambic forums. (http://support.iambic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19608):

The banding here is on the sides but it would be on the top and bottom if the image were square. It's really not an effective way to deal with backgrounds and anyone purchasing the backgrounds from Iambic would have to resize the images before they would be usable on 320x480 devices. Kind of a bad customer service even IMO.
Also, if you do resize the images then go from portraite to landscape, you still have banding.
OK, just to be clear so there's no confusion:
AG1 is a 390x480 jpg in Portrait mode.
AG2 is a 390x480 jpg after switching to Landscape mode.
AG3 is what a 480x480 jpg looks like.
