View Full Version : New Battery or Not?

I have a TH55. In the last three months or so, I've had a battery issue. I used to think it was my fault or my Innopocket metal case's fault - but now I don't think it is either.
A couple of months ago, I came out of church and wanted to add a friend's contact information. I pulled out the TH - battery was discharged. But just an hour and a half before - it was fine. OK (I thought) I must have done something. Many other times this has happened a battery with a seemingly full charge is down to nothing.
Last night when I went to bed, I had about an 80% battery charge. At 3am (as usual) my Clie woke up and began it's nightly backup to the MS. I don't think it went off after that.. Battery Graph v1.21 shows at 3am the battery had approximately 75-80% left, but when I woke up this morning it was drained.
My Preferences have the Clie going off in 30 seconds. I did not touch the Clie in the night.
Do I need a new battery? Do I need a better power management program - can someone recommend a FREE one? Any and all

When you say "its nighty battery backup," do you mean your RAM backup instead? I've never heard of a battery backup. If you did mean RAM, what program are you using? Resco Backup has a check mark for "turn device off after backup." Although it should go off after 30 seconds, maybe the backup somehow overrides that and it stays on. I use AutoOff 1.3 and have mine set to stay on 10 minutes and never have battery drain problems. If you use a Bible app in church, 30 seconds doesn't cut it! ;)
How old is your TH55?
What results do you get regarding discharge time from Battery Graph? Is it near 4 hours?

Correct - I didn't mean to say nightly "battery" backup. I've changed it in my original post. It's Backup Buddy.
wellsjs, it's not only happened with my Backup but other programs as well. I purchased my TH used in August 2004. No - 30 seconds is not long enough for my bible app. I'm always scrolling.....
What results do you get regarding discharge time from Battery Graph? How do I get these results???
I'll go some investigating into AutoOff 1.3.............
Let me know of any other ideas...

Sorry, I was thinking of a different app . . . you may want to grab
Battery Time (http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&PartnerREF=&siteid=1&prodID=45712)
and charge you PDA until the power light goes off. Then start the discharge program. It will create a "memo" with all the details when done. Check out this thread for lots of info:
Incredible Battery life (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42896)
and this one if you need to order a new one:
Replacement batteries (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=100263)
BackupBuddy has problem with not turning off your Clie if you have unacknowledged alarms prior to the scheduled backup. I fixed the problem by moving my scheduled backup from midnight to 6am. If it stays on, I'll catch it within the hour, as I generally already wake up by then.
After 2 years of having TH, I noticed my battery started to discharge very quickly. Replacing the battery did the trick of bringing the TH to a "brand new" feeling again.

Well.......
It doesn't really look like a battery problem to me. BatteryTIME v1.84 says that a TH55 should report 3:55 and mine reported at 3:38. Here is the synopsis...
Time;Battery;Voltage
00:00:02;100%;420V
00:31:35;90%;415V
00:50:54;80%;410V
01:11:43;70%;405V
01:33:22;60%;400V
01:58:42;50%;395V
02:09:44;40%;390V
02:21:27;30%;385V
02:49:27;20%;380V
03:38:06;10%;375V
T:03:38:06 B10%,375V
What do ya' think?
I downloaded AutoOff - i'll see if that solves my problems...

Yeah, you should have a little more milage in that battery, although it's not performing at factory new strength. If you aren't a heavy user during the day with little chance to recharge, you should be OK. It does appear that it's some of your application's behavior causing the problem.
What I like about AutoOff is the "Check on every app quit" setting. Had problems with similar apps losing their settings after resets, etc. AutoOff works great . . . never a problem.
You may have another issue with you backup app. Resco Backup has a "turn device off after backup" setting. Not sure about the one you're using.
