Is that it, no more updates for Yishow? Zlauncher is cranking out updates before we blink, was the last update for yishow it's final presence in the launcher wars?

ZZTech (I might be wrong here) is a company (more than one person) and the developer for YiShow is one person - I agree it needs more updates but I can see why we arent getting them.

I have been checking out ZLauncher for a while I just have a question about how easily it handles background images.....I want to use JPG images and it doesnt list my model - T615c - as able to directly use JPGs, and I dont want to convert them all to BMP. Backgrounds is most of the reason I have a launcher although I have to admit the quick launch bar in the last release of YiShow is pretty handy.

ZLauncher is THE most convenient of all launchers. It provides me with simple access to my most used apps, great jog dial and back button support, hi res+, and once I take a picture with my Clie in 320x480 mode, I can convert it directly to a background. Yes, ZL handles JPGs as backgrounds. I just look up the file on the MS, tap-hold, select BACK IMAGE, wait three seconds, and it's there. Then, I can even delete the image from the MS and just keep it in ZL's database.

Ever since I tried putting YiShow on my NX and it made it crash for the first time, I'm never, ever, ever going to look at YiShow again. I went the whole first month without crashing my NX, up until that one faithful day...

I must also advise that ZLauncher handles jpeg's as easily as BMP picture files. I simply place mine in the file:

\PALM\Programs\ZLauncher\Theme

I then install them witht ZLauncher's theme manager.

Previously I have always been a dedicated user of Yishow. Unfortunately, even the latest update of Yishow for Clie (Version 5.3) has a number of bugs. Nothing major that I've noticed, but just a number of annoying issues. I haven't yet registered ZLauncher, but I anticipate doing so once the trial period has expired.

ZLauncher converts jpegs to bitmap when it's moved to RAM from the MS. It's converted back to jpeg when moved back to the MS.

You can't have a jpg in RAM, the Palm OS won't allow it.

BTW, I think YiShow has died, ZL stole center stage!

abosco, your NX most likely crashed when you installed the OS4.1 version of Yishow for clie. I'm using Yishow on my TG50 and have had no crashes whatsoever with it.

I hope YiShow hasn't died. I still use it! I love it actually. But there has got to be a reason Zlauncher is so popular. Im going to try it out later today.

I knew it was possible but I am thinking its not supported for my model as per what I read (posted below) on the ZZTech web site - any T615 user confirm one way or another???

# ZLauncher can convert a BMP/PGP/JPG(with the Sony Jpeg Decode Library, which is available for Clie NR70/NR70V/T650C/T665C) file into the background image database directly. You can change the background image according to your favor.

I can confirm Jpgs can be used on a N610. I just installed the two jpeg library files from my NR and jpgs work like a charm. Seems like it should also work with the T615.

For the ZLauncher manual:

"Because the JPG support is based on the Sony JpegUtil Library, which is only available on the Clie NR/NX/NZ series and Clie T650C/T665C/T675C. However, if you install the Sony JpegUtil Library(JEPG_Library.prc and JPEG_Util_Library.prc) to your handheld, the JPG support maybe work on the handheld(except for Palm T|T). You can find the Sony JpegUtil Library in the ROM of the above listed handheld models. NOTE: WE TAKE NO REPSONSIBILITY FOR USING THE Sony JpegUtil Library, YOU TRY IT AT YOUR OWN RISK. "

There you have it.

Change is always good at the grocery store. :)

I probably did, but that was because I was in a hurry to see how background pictures would look the first day when I got my NX. Now, I'm much more calm and relax, so I can make an informed decision as to which launcher I should use. But still, everytime I see ZLauncher and the customized themes and stuff I have, I start acting like a kid who forgot his daily ridelin. After skinning the graffiti area, status bar, icon set, background, and theme to OS X, I actually fooled people into thinking I was running Jaguar on it. THAT is how customizable ZL is.

I've seen screenshots of YiShow. They don't compare. Right now, I've got a mediocre Win XP theme going. As soon as I figure out how to get the graffiti area and status bar to appear in ScreenShot5, I'll be all set.

I streamlined through "transparent" setting, etc. to make ZL look as uncluttered as YiShow. But what is a very positive gain for me is being able to put things where I want them, such as clock, date, battery, icon quick links, etc. Plus the built-in file manager of ZL is superior to YiShow's. Changing backgrounds is very simple and efficient with ZL. Instead of /b it's /m, choose your backgound, tap "Select" and "OK" and you're done.
