Out of the blue, Ptunes on my LD started styttering and emitting a high pitched squeek.
There is no apparent reason - I first heard it when walking and listening to music, but it also happens when it is over the table, plugged to the stereo. Its not heat, movement, or even HD access!!!! - at least, no red light blinking.
I haven't been able to do a secure hard reset yet, but I did defrag the HD via Windows.
It happened for no apparent reason - no new musics, files or software. It worked ok for more than a month with the same configurations in it and no problems.
It happens every minute or so, but it is very irregular. It can happen a lot, and then not a all for a couple of minutes.
Any idea what this could be? Or should I just do a secure erase and start everything from scratch?

Have you installed update 2.0
Where are you when you are listening to it, I found I had similar problems when near mobile phone transmitters and CRT monitors.

Sorry it took so long to come back.
Yes, I have had update 2.0 since long before it started.
I did a hard reset (secure, including HD format) and copied a lot of mp3s back to the LD. It was fine, and then started again the very same day - although it happened once, it was enough for me not to hurt my ears again, so I gave up. At home, using a FM trasmitter all went fine...
Haven't tried it again with earphones though. The first time it happened to two different sets of wired-earphones - not BT - sound boxes on my computer, and even on the built-in speaker - but not now).

If you are seing this behaviour on a hard reset, 'factory-fresh' device I suspect it may be a hardware problem..You might want to try the new updated PTunes 3.1.5...

I've had it since november and not a problem until march.
I've had the 2.0 update since always. No problems with ptunes until then either, except for the hd acces, which I did solve waiting a few seconds (felt like minutes) before playing any music.
After the hard reset, it just happens when I have my phones plugged, which of course is terrible because the squeaks are really loud and high pitched. I left it on beside my radio yesterday and no problem whatever. Will try today using the sound boxes from the computer.
Can it be because I walk with it on my pocket while listening to music??? :S Before the har reset it happened even while on the table...

PS: I already installed 3.1.5 yesterday night ad today it happened again after not even 5 minutes playing, so again I gave up listening for a while.
Will hard reset again today and leave 3.0.9 and see what happens...
Forgot to say: it doens't happen for TCPMP, but TCPMP interface is terrible for listening to music - I can only go fwd or back one song at a time, no shuffle, no playlists, etc - or am I missing something?

PPS: 3.1.5 apparently fixed the HD caching here too.

TCPMP has M3U playlist support; it also has shuffle. Pathdoc put together a small guide (http://www.corecodec.com/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=6b43cc6b894b0da8a8d9fce4939fb593&topic=2494.msg15417#msg15417) on creating M3Us for TCPMP. It's pretty easy from a text editor, and others have reported that TCPMP can handle Pocket Tunes-created M3Us.
