Hey folks,
Thanks to the hints on Cliesource and other online forums I've gotten my TG50 using my T68i as a GPRS modem to connect to Rogers AT&T here in Toronto. I'm using Snappermail to periodically connect to my pop account and retrieve messages for Blackberry-like functionality and it works pretty well.
One unexpected surprise though: if I'm talking on the T68i, and my TG50 tries to access the internet, it actually cuts off my voice connection to establish the GPRS data connection!
This is no good. Does anybody know a setting to prevent this on either the phone or the Palm?

Hey Alche, I'm sorry I can't help you but perhaps you can help me? ;-) We basicaly have the same setup (except I'm in Montreal) so I was wondering what are the exact settings on you T68i and your TG-50 to make this work. Also, will this be using "minutes" on my phone or "bytes"? Thanks alot, and if I do find an anwser to your question, you can rest assured I'll let you know.

Hi Simon,
It was hell getting it to work, but it runs reliably now. Let's see if I can remember everything. (I was setting this up on my bosses' Palm, and don't have it with me right now)
First, you need to download install a Bluetooth T68i phone driver on the TG50. I used this one: http://www.palm.com/shared_intl/ie/mobile/drivers/Sony-E-T68i.zip. The one on the Sony Site, at least last week, didn't work for me.
Once you have the driver on there, you need to setup the Palm to Phone connection in the Settings app using the Sony E.-T68i Bluetooth driver. You have to select the phone to pair up with this connection, so be sure your phone is discoverable. Once the Palm sees the phone, you should be able to test the connection right on the spot--with the big Test button in the Settings screen. It should respond with a message that basically says everything is ok. If it gives any kind of error, things won't work, and you'll have to find a better driver.
Next you have to configure a Network Connection in the Network Settings window. Create a New, uh, profile I think... just pull down the menu and choose New... Call it Rogers AT&T. Make it use the Sony E. T68i Connection we just setup in the previous step as it's method of connecting. Set the Username to wapuser1 and the Password to wap. Set the phone number to *99***1# (I found this information on this post at Esanto (http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=7173&forum=14).)
Before you go any farther, make sure you have a DATA account setup with Rogers AT&T. None of this will work unless you do. You'll just get a "GPRS Parameters not supported" message on the phone when it tries to "dial out". You will not be using minutes, you'll be using bytes.
At this point, you should be able to connect using your web browser. Go to the Netfront browser, edit the Network connection so that it uses the Rogers AT&T profile you just created. Then try connecting. It takes about 20 seconds for the Palm and the phone to establish a connection, but it's reasonably fast after that. You'll see the T68i light up, display a "Connecting" progress bar and then display a little globe icon when it's connected.
I know I left out a few details in the above description, but this may get you started. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks *a lot*!! Extremely appreciated. Once again, I'll let you know if I figure out how to solve your problem. Also, you might wanna try posting in the wireless forum, lots of peeps who know more about this than me over there. Take it easy,
Simon

Are you using a Bluetooth headset when this happens?

Nope. Just TG50 to T68i, no other Bluetooth devices.
I just downloaded the drivers off of Sony's site and they work fine with the address book. I'm still trying to figure out how the SMS stuff works.
Note: my phone is a T68i

I am Toronto too. I have a Nokia 6310i and a Bluetooth card for my NR70U Clie. I almost have everything working except that Rogers wants me to buy the Palm software $129 to get onto the 'net. That's in addition to the $20~$100 per month access charge. Anyone have any idea how to get the Palm software some other way?

some GPRS enable device is not capable of simultaneously using both the GPRS services and voice services or data call. One of the services automatically turn off while the one is enable. And there are some GPRS equipped device that can accept calls while using the GPRS simultaneously.
maybe your T68i is not capable of holding both services and thats the reason why your GPRS connection break off when there's an incoming call.:D
