I need access to my university's website, only available through a VPN. Mergic VPN (supplied with my WiFi card) doesn't work. When asked, the University IT dept kindly referred me to www.securew2.com, which supplies - a windows client! Instils great confidence in the IT department...

Anyway, I found this on the SecureW2 forums (http://www.securew2.com/uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=67&highlight=palm):
But since this is an Open Source project, you are welcome to start programming yourself.
As I can't code, I'm asking if anyone that can is interested in porting this to Palm.

So, any potential takers here? Is it possible? Worthwhile? Am I wasting my time even asking?
Anyone?

Thanks,
Tim

It looks like SecureW2 is just using EAP-TTLS protocol. I beleive that's the extra bits in Palm's WiFi security update for $5.99 http://www.palmzone.net/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=811

Thanks PCQ,

I checked out your link, but it says it's only for Windows and only for the TX (I have a T5 with Wifi card & a Mac desktop). Thanks for the heads-up though.

Any other ideas?

MeetingHouse sells a product called AEGIS SecureConnect (http://www.mtghouse.com/products/aegis_solutions.asp).

They providesclients for several platforms, including Palm. Only the Palm Tungsten C is officially supported, although they mention the T3 in one of their App Notes (http://www.mtghouse.com/products/appnotes/palm_T3_App_Note_012005.pdf). If it works for the T3 with the WiFi card, it might work in the T5 too.

Thanks. I've contacted them about trialling it.
Very grumpy with my university that they don't support Palm (even more grumpy they don't know the difference between Palm & WinMobile). I think they might be the only university in Australia that doesn't! :(

My preference is still for a free version though. AEGIS look like they'll charge an arm and a leg for theirs. I need my limbs... ;)

I've read somewhere else that a license for SecureConnect was around 30$. Not sure I remember correctly though.

Well I downloaded their trial, but it's a "msi" file (whatever that is, I presume a Windows format). Anyway, my Mac doesn't recognise it and my T5 certainly doesn't.

I've emailed them, but no response so far. To be fair, it may have been after hours over that side of the world...

So I take it that no-one is interested in porting SecureW2?
Not that I expected anyone to be jumping out of their skins at the opportunity, but you never know if you never ask :)

If you know someone that has a computer with Windows, he may be able to extract the content and get you the PRCs and PDBs inside the MSI.

Hello!
Has anyone kept a version of Aegis SecureConnect for Palm (even if it it a simple trial version) ? It is not available anymore from mthouse website since it has been taken over by Cisco and I would like ot download it for my TC.
Thanks a lot,
Lionel

You could connect to your desktop via VNC, and then your desktop can connect in whatever way you want. Security is low, though.

Thank you for your answer Pruss. I forgot to mention that but my problem is a little bit different. I want to use my internet provider Wifi hotspots (WPA encrypted wwwto use VoIP with Articulation on my TC. So I need mobility, I can't connect through my desktop. I tried to contact Cisco, they answered me as if they had never heard about Aegis Palm OS dev and they advised me to ask Palm. I can always try...

Bye !

I hope you get an answer... unfortunately, with things like Flash and Java not supported on the PalmOS anymore, I don't have high hopes for IPSec and PPTP.

Yes, but you can keep your desktop running, and then connect from the hotspot to the desktop (either via static IP or dyndns), and from the desktop over VPN to your final destination.

it's doable
but there will be very little ROI in doing it, and no fun.

I understand but the problem is that I need this software (Aegis Client) to be able to connect to the hotspot (WPA protected hotspot with certificates delivered by the internet provider). As soon as I am connected to the hotspot, the TC deals very well with the connection to VoIP servers (I don't need any intermediate). There are few free access wifi hotspot in France and as my provider (called "Free") has a good hotspot network I wanted to use it. The solution if I want to stay a Palm user is to switch to a TX.

I asked Palm support, there were sorry but they had no more information about that 3rd party app internally. I emailed Cisco again to explain my problem more precisely but I think they won't give a download link.

Thanks!
