argh, seems like i solve one problem just to have another. My brother and I both connect to the internet on our computer with bluetooth (me with my E2 and him with his Zire72), and we both have separate accounts. However, we sometimes get this error trying to connect to either account (or maybe he just gets the error on both):

Error: Serial: timeout
(Could be bad cable or faulty modem)
(0x0305)

it's very annoying as once again it prevents us from connecting to the internet. My brother mentioned something about making separate networks or something, I don't know what he was talking about so I was hoping someone could offer me help once more?

Hi,

I found this in the Support Knowledge Library:

Solution ID: 20343
Eerror (Error: Serial: timeout. Could be bad cable or faulty Modem (0x0305))

If a connection is attempted while Bluetooth services are turned off, or if you have deleted the Palm™ handheld from the Linked Devices on your phone, you may receive the following error message:

Error: Serial: timeout. Could be bad cable or faulty Modem (0x0305)

To turn on Bluetooth services on your Palm:

1. Tap the Prefs Icon from the Applications Launcher.
2. Select Communication from the four choices and tap on Bluetooth.
3. Tap the arrow next to Bluetooth and select On.
4. (Steps may vary with other Bluetooth enabled Palm devices. Please see users manual for additional information.)

In addition, this error may appear if you have removed the Bluetooth enabled Palm handheld from the linked devices list on your phone. If this is the case, the handheld may still see the phone as a linked device. To reestablish the trusted pair, tap the connection name underneath the "Phone Connection:" text in the Phone Link application on the handheld. This leads you through the phone setup previously used to establish a Bluetooth phone connection.

thanks for the post, however the bluetooth services are activated, and the computer claims to be linked to the device and vice versa. Not to mention this has nothing to do with a phone.

Perhaps set different addresses?

Care to clarify how I might do that?

If you mean to assign each user on my computer a separate address (IP, DNS or whatever I access with my palm), I don't know how I might do that, especially considering the only addresses I filled out were not copied from my computer anywhere, they were copied from the whizoo site (http://www.whizoo.com/bt_setup/)

how many devices can your PC connect to at once?

if it only supports one connection at a time, and you both try and connect at the same time one of you will get ignored. Also, your PC may "support" multiple connections, but not actualy perform the task well. Windows XP's defulat bluetooth support is a little weak and can interfear with 3rd part software.

you and your brother each have an account, do you mean each of you has a seperate profile on the PC each with your handheld listred as a trusted device?

If thats the situation, then your PC might not trust your handheld if you are not logged in.

Finaly, how far fromthe PC are you, how many walls block a clear line of sight. Can you repeat the rror message is specific part of the house. What other electionics might be messing with your signal. A TV, microwave, or any semi-powerfull electronic device is going to scew the bluetooth signal.

-------------

Basicly, that error message is there to tell you the seriial connection,. in this case a BT serial connection, has timed out. The hand held is not getting a respince from the other device. I usualy get this error on my pda when my phone turned itself off for lack of battery, or I walked out of range of the device.

Since you and your brother get the same problem, the error likely lies where the two of you have somthing in commen, in this case that the PC. Next time you get the error. Make sure your PDA is discoverable amd set it down where you are. Then go over to your PC and see if you can find the handheld when you search for bluetooth devices in the area.

Hey all...
just want to say, this is the NICEST site for advice that I've come across so far. I have a UX50, and as I got it used, had to start from scratch. I'm not at all computer-savvy, but this site helped me soo much. ***Thank you all!!!***
ok, next issue...
I own a motorola mpx200, and i've upgraded the software to 2003. I've only been able to beam mp3's or pics via IR from my clie, and have not been able to use the mpx as a modem. I've searched the web for hours, no luck. Can anyone help?

please explian

What do you mean you and your brother each have an account?

When does the problem arise, all the time? When both of you are tring to use the PC at once?

Does it ever work? Has it worked when you are not looged into the machine.

When it did'nt work, did you set down the PDA as suggested, leave it discoverable and then attempt to find it with the BT detection on the PC?

I'd love to help you some more, but I need to know more then "it don't work"

As I said above, the probelm is not likely the hand helld, but the common oint between yours and your brothers PDA and the internet. The PC acting as a rounter.
