I feel like a bit of an idiot, but the Zire 72s comes with the Messages app, right? It says so on the site, but I just got mine over eBay yesterday and it doesn't have that app anywhere! It's not on my CD either. What gives?

Hello +Kardboard+,
Paul from Palm here. Just in case, at the upper right corner of the main Launcher, it should show "All". This will show all the applications on the handheld. If it reads something other than All (Games, Main, System, etc) tap it for the drop-down menu and choose All.
You can check the CD, as well. (Win XP) Put the CD in the computer and navigate to the Essential Software folder: My Computer > right-click on the drive that shows your Palm Desktop > Choose Explore > English folder > Essential Software folder > run the file Software Essentials.exe. A Palm Installation Window should open showing "Add Software to your handheld" as one of the options.
That would be how to locate it on the original CD. But I wouldn't know how faithfull the copy that you've been given may be.
Best
Paul

Yup, it's in "All".
I followed your instructions for the CD, but the list of software that shows up is only:
Getting Started Guide
Documents to Go
palmOne VersaMail
AudiblePlayer
RealOne Player
Windows Media Player/DirectX
Java Technologies
Handmark Solitaire
powerOne Calculator
Adobe Reader for Palm OS
Palm Reader
That's it. No SMS. :(

Yes, it seems that two are missing, sorry to see. palmOne Web Pro and palmOne Messages. I expect there are third-party alternatives, perhaps someone here can give you some leads/recommendations.
Regards
Paul
