View Full Version : Anything good to say about the TX?

I was feeling a little frustrated, because all the posts we tend to read are about issues. Now I know that most people post because they have a question, but how about a post indicating what we love about the Palm TX?

I for one love the ease of use, and for the first time on a handheld, I find that I use the landscape view on a handheld.

Also, I love the built in fonts. Reading an ebook is sooo easy.

Anybody else care to chime in? I would love to hear what you have to say. Obviously, it's not restricted to TX. If you own a Palm, let's hear it. If you have a PPC, go somewhere else. Just kidding... You can post too. :D

The best feature set of any "handheld" (treo wins on the smartphone side) on the market, and the palm os(GARNET) is major part of that.

It's certainly the coolest thing i've ever owned, i miss my TJ-35 mainly cause of the stability and the hold button. The 35 is "my" best/favourite handheld.

One of my work colleauges has a MDA, (HTC magician i think) and he always looks really geeky sitting there with his stylus every time he wants to do anything, thanks to T|X i could most likely get though a day without using the styus, lookup addresses, playing music, check a document or two, surf the net, check email, overclock  , underclock, play solitare. I'm sure the list goes on.

The T|X rules (even if it crashes inbetween conquering various challenges )

Hi TMNielson,
I am a big fan of the TX.
I owned a T5 (after a T3) which got a cracked screen and my excuse was that it was cheaper to buy a new Palm :p

The TX has few faults if software is correctly upgraded from previous devices.
I can honestly say that it is the best PDA I have ever owned, and since getting it I have learnt how to use Blazer to its full potential, (with BT and a V635) pTunes with my favourite tracks and TCPMP with some of my all time favourite bits of video.
I suppose it could all have been accomplished with the other devices, but this one feels so stable and looks good in the cradle of my UWK.

I am tempted to try uncache to see if Blazer is quicker to load, but I can live with the speed it launches because it is quicker to load than AOL by several degrees :)

Landscape mode with ZLauncher looks stunning, and MyKbd is a fantastic enhancement to a lovely PDA.

I realise these are mainly software comments, but the hardware speaks for itself.

The TX is hands down the best PDA I've ever owned. I love it! When the TX finally arrived, it fulfilled the requirements that I'd been looking for in a PDA. I suffered through 2 years with a Tungsten C with that stupid keyboard, just because I wanted some Wi-Fi access in a Palm.

Here's the requirements that the TX fulfilled.
-Hi-Res+ (320x480)
-Slim w/o a funky design (i.e. clamshell)
-Wi-Fi built-in
-Increased Memory
-Fast processor
-No Camera (no need for a low quality cam)

The only thing that the TX doesn't have that I'd want is Cobalt for the multi-tasking, but not like we'll ever see that now...

Over the years I have had several Palms with lower specs... My criteria that I stated to the MRS for my next upgrade was a Palm that included 320x480 resolution, large amount of memory and built-in WiFi. Not too long afterwards, the TX came out.

Seriously though, here is what I love about the TX:
- processory speed
- RAM
- NVFS peace of mind
- BlueTooth
- WiFi
- 320x480
- 5 way navigator implementation
- Fairly substantial software package included
- TE form factor

One other thing I like: hackability. The T|X has a lot of stuff you can do with the universal port, and you can even take it apart and add/upgrade pieces without a huge amount of difficulty. Really, the ONLY downside I see to it is the hacked up NVFS it uses. However, since that's software, it'll probably eventually be fixed by someone ;)

The 624MHz xScale chip it uses is a nice bonus, too (even if they set it to 312MHz by default). Whoever designed the WiFi for the T|X did an excellent job, IMO.

Is my very first Palm and I won't buy any other kind!!! (unless its like a major "Update" i.e. 4GB HD & better battery life WITH an average price...)

I purchased mine and still waiting for it. My justification for getting the TX were:

-Faster Processor (3x)
-SNES works. Period w/ Multi-button press
-3.8" screen (larger than UX and Zauruses [physically])
-Sleek and nice Bluish-black look
-Palm OS (I really didn't want to leave the forums. The community here is just great)
-128MB of Internal Memory
-WiFi (my WiFi died in my device)

I know that I will miss the clamshell design of the UX, the low-res camera which was very useful, as well as Media Launcher but I feel that the things I will gain and for the price ($206) is worth it.

Wifi and BT integrated was what I was waiting a very long time for. That's what sold me. Nice screen and size are also nice. First PDA I've paid for in 5 years. First one worth the upgrade IMO.

I agree your point, this thing is a fantastic peice of hardware.
I believe the popularity(As in they have one themselfs) of the device with the developers has been a key to it's sucess. People are lured by the hardware feature set, and stay for the software, theres almost a new peice everyday. :)

The pretty blue body of the TX is nice... :D

Actually, I definitely had deep reservations about giving up my beloved T3 for my TX, especially when I had so many problems with it at first. Now, it runs very stable, and other than the heap size, I have no complaints.

The TX is my fourth PDA. It finally meats all of my requirements. I use it as a laptop replacement. I love the BT with the built in WiFi, the generous memory, The nice screen, and the simplicity of Palm OS. I love the community, if Palm or Palmsource forgot a feature there is a slew of brilliant minds who can hack or mod the features. My TX is like an extension of my brain. I love it!

I'm on my 7th Palm OS device (#6 -- Treo 600 is also still in daily use), and have been so pleased with the TX that I've hardly posted here since OCtober when I bought it!

THe must-haves that the TX finally had:
-Hi-Res+ (320x480)
-Slim
-Increased Memory
-Fast processor

I wouldn't mind having a Treo keyboard on it, but not enough to compromise the beautiful screen. I also wouldn't mind a camera, but not enough to compromise the slim form factor.

Upgrading to the TX was very smooth for me because I took my time. Since the Treo was my daily driver, I didn't load anything on the TX other than the built-ins. I've slowly added back some of my 3rd party apps, but I haven't bothered with others because they've been unnecessary or are more useful on the Treo.
