View Full Version : returning my NX...

well, I messed with it, it's better than my old NR but I think I am gonna just wait a couple of months to get the new Clie that's coming out (and I am now 99% sure that we are only days away from first real leaks on the specs..)

Sorry to hear that. I had to return mine two times as well before I got one without dead pixels. I love my NX70V, and depending on what the new NX (or NZ?) has when it comes for specs I might get it. If it has 32MB of RAM, that will probably be the biggest deciding factor for me. Without that, I'll stick with my NX70V.

everyone talks about how they got dead pixsels i never had one on any of my palms

With all the crap I have, the only bad pixel I ever had was on a Dell Laptop.

dead pixels? sorry to hear that but I never had any problem with my NX either.

But I would wait if I was the owner of NR since it's only a matter of months before Sony will release their new versions of Clie. We all should have, if not the complete, but a slight idea of how Sony deals with its' market & comsumers. Just a test of patience & desire vs time.

I'm a happy owner of NX, I love it! It was a big leap from the previous N700 series. Took alot of patience and judgement, well, least the case with me, to narrow down the right model at the right time. I had to watch as others were using the T series/NR series, where I was so tempted to move up. It's a long battle with the big corporates. Guess you just kinda learn and adapt. :)

huh? Who said anything about dead pixels?

No, I am just returning my NX back to the store before my 30 days are up. There's nothing wrong with my NX, except the fact that I don't like the hump on the back, 11 MB of memory, and the fact that it is going obsolete very soon. I'd better wait a little longer and get the newest model which is more like my old NR but better...

well at least the nx is cheap now, unfortunely...they should keep the nx70v price flat at 599...makes me feel sad to think that its worth less...nevertheless if you wait for the new ones...they cost MONEY...and you would have to wait a long time for the price to go back down

alsa
04-14-2003, 11:19 AM
I know the new one will cost $ - that's why I am returning my NX now, so I have money to buy the new one with...

I gave away my first three Palms, and broke the NR... I need to save up for the new one even if it's gonna be $600-700...

Eddy
04-14-2003, 11:45 AM
talking about giving away Palms.... haha, I still have my previous one here, and already sold the rest of them at very low price to 2nd hand shops. :(

Well let's just hope sony doesnt do anything with the CF slot in the upcomming models. I can't wait to have more storage capabilities on my NX! :D

Just a word abou NX prices... I ordered my NX the day it came out (dec 23 I think) in Germany and got it directly from Sony for €514 (about $550). And I still haven't seen any offers below €450, so I consider the NX' price pretty stable.

i wouldn't says the nx is obsolete

Who cares if you use an obsolete model? As long as it continues to service your needs and do everything you need it to do. I love my new NX70V, and it does everything I need and want. I'd like to have a better camera, but that is only a want not a must-have. Must-haves for me for the next NX is 32MB of RAM, Palm OS 5.2, MS Pro support, Bluetooth and hopefully a CF card I can use Eruware's CF drivers with when they reach Gold status. We will have to wait and see what the next NX (or NZ) will have.

I am too waiting for a viable replacement for my NX, but the NZ isn't it.

32 MB would be great, longer battery life better.

Yeah, let us know as soon as there's news on the new model.. I can live with my laptop for a couple of months (I got a Mac PowerBook recently...)

Ha! I knew it. I am glad I returned my NX - there are increasing rumors that a new Clie is only 2 weeks from being announced. I am glad I have the money for it now. The NR I will miss sorely (because of it's form factor) but the NX and NZ are not good enough improvements.

I can't believe the NR was cutting edge less than a year ago...

Marudine

Well, I nearly put my money on the nz. However I was quite skeptical over some technical issues hence put me to an acquisition halt. So far, the gathered rumor of the coming clie model is a replacement of nx,
- 1 MP camera with flash
- Bluetooth
- Palm OS 5.2
- either 16 or 32 mb Ram
- might have the nz form factor (according to one of the posts mentioning that SONY has shown the new clie to him and he mistaken as a nz)
- Price is approx $600

If the above info are true, then I'll probably go for it.

So according to Marudine's post, the NX replacement is (probably) a brick.

meh, my NX70 does everything I want it to do. I am not gonna waste money on an update with only marginal improvements. I dont use the camera that much, 32meg would be nice but i do well with what i have.

And if it as big and bulky as the NZ then that would just suck.

I dont jump on the me too bandwagon when it comes to upgrading palms. You dont even get a chance to enjoy the palm you already have because you put your mind on the next best thing.

I plan on having my NX70 in use for at least 2 more years before I think of upgrading.

I feel the same way. Unfortuneately, the cost for upgrading for the marginal benfits isn't economically viable for me...I'd rather spend my money on a 1GB CF card and the CF driver. Now, upgrading from my Palm III to my Clie S320 was worthwhile, and going from my $150 S320 (33MHz, 8MB, 160x160 monochrome display) to my NX was definately the $$$.

For me to upgrade I would need a double or triple jump in CPU/RAM capacity, a much slimmer profile, 2+ Megapixel camera (like the NZ without the bulk), and built-in wifi/bluetooth.

My NX70 will probably be in use for 1.5-2 more years before I upgrade.

I'm really happy with my NX60 that I got just 2 months ago, and won't feel at all like I'm missing something once the new models come out.

Alsa, you need to stop worrying about owning an obsolete device. I think the Clie is so much ahead of the rest of the field that it will take them a while to catch up so the only better device will be a newer one from Sony.

As a business tool think about the value of the new features and how it will help you work more effectively. Or if it is a toy how much do you want the newest coolest thing.

As for me, I just use a Sony camera to add high quality camera to my Clie, and a BT Mem stick for connectivity (along with WIFI) and of course the CF driver as soon as its out for storage, and also just getting Stowaway keyboard so I can truly travel without my ibook unless I need to do more power work. I can even update web sites from Clie with the free ftp app, now that's cool.

FYI, my last pda was a Vizor Pro I got 3 years ago, and it served me well for long time. My next one in 2 or 3 years may not even resemble any of the options out there today. It will probably look like a thick marker and will have a roll out panoramic screen. (yes kind of like on mission to mars)

Amen,

Right now, i am only using my NX at about 10% of what it can really do.

I am saving up for 1 gig so I can watch shows, have tons of mp3s and files.

There are lots of people who always have to have the lastest. But its not like Alsa had the nx for 3 months and then is selling it to get a new one. I bought the NR about a month before the NX was being released and when I found out about the NX, I quickly returned the NR and awaited for the NX. And I am very happy that I did so. But that doesn't mean I'm going to jump on the next sony pda. When your spending that much money, its nice to be the "Jones" for a little while. :)

thanks, lightninja

That's exactly what I am doing - I have been without a PDA since Tuesday, and I am doing OK with my 15" PowerBook G4 - I am using Palm Desktop and ICal for Time Management, SplashMoney and SplashID desktop versions, and Acrobat Reader and Palm Reader desktop for ebooks on my Mac and can manage for a couple of months until the new Clie comes out I guess :)

I have had my NX for 6 months now, and it feels like I just got it!

My NR will be a year old in May.

Something how time flies... :)

Hi, HansSchmucker!

I saw the NX70V for 540 Euro on a German website. That translates into U$585. That's quite a bit of money and still more than US$100 more expensive than in the US. Not to speak about the accessory prices.

The NX70V sells for around 53000 Yen (incl. tax) over here (=405 Euro / US$440), but I assume you would not have liked the Japanese OS.

I'll stick with my NX60 for a while as I do not really miss any important features. Bluetooth and more RAM would be nice, but using MS Pro with PowerRun works fine for me.

S'me again. After using my NX70V for a full two weeks now, I can never go back to a smaller screen or an OS4 device (including a NR70V). I use the MP3 playback capabilities daily, along with the PIM features. The voice recorder I use whenever I'm in a meeting with either one of my (multiple) managers. They've even asked me to record the meeting and send them the WAV file!

As I've mentioned countless other places, it's all a matter of what the new NX models have that will help me to decide to upgrade or not. If it has 32MB of RAM and also Bluetooth then I'll be upgrading. Otherwise, I'll be staying with my NX70V.

I COULD live with 4.1, but . . . that's mostly 'cause I'm still waiting on a few of my favorite programs to be 'OS5 Compatable'.

For some of my OS4 only programs, I use them on my SJ20 for now, but the SJ20 is my backup unit. I used it for a full month while I was waiting to get the TG50 originally. Now the only thing I'd really like in my NX70V is support for the KB11 keyboard. I'm tempting to make the modifications necessary to make it work with it. But that's another thread entirely...

Let me first say Smart. At least wait for the new one *if it comes out soon* and then spend your money....you can always buy an NX70 later. Ok now that thats out of the way

I wouldn't say that. Just because there is something bigger and better does not mean something is obsolete. If that were the case then the NX would have become obsolete when the NZ was released.
My NX does everything and more, you just want the biggest and the best, well let me reassure you...you WILL PAY for it (literally:).
It’s not like I DON'T buy the best computer in the world because I don't want more speed and power. I don't buy it because first off I want to spend a reasonable amount of money, and 2nd it’s not worth it because I’ve already got something that does the job just fine.

Anyways, lol. I just ranting because from a lot of experience, I know that if you feel the way you feel about electronics you better have a really REALLY deep pocket.
---------------------
Not trying to say bad things, I've just done exactly what you’re doing and it gets you no where. ESPECIALLY in electronics and ESPECIALLY with Sony. The second you get that new NX they will have a new one ready to go before you know it. So ya. Ciao
---------------------
Ontop of all my ranting I totally understand the coolness of the feeling when you get the NEWEST thing, it is a pretty cool feeling. Then again you really only feel it for such a short time....:) GL with the new NX

With the rumours that Sony will no longer have the CF slot, I think I will stick with my NX and its CF slot.

>With the rumours that Sony will no >longer have the CF slot, I think I will >stick with my NX and its CF slot.

What is the rumor, are they going to have built in wifi or dual memory stick slots, I don't think we can rely on the wifi memorystick unless they have an additional way to have memory in at the same time.

And if they do have built in wifi then it is not upgradable like an external card.
