Hi. I work for a company that uses an E-2 to hotsync information to all the computers. (I'm not 100% sure why, I just started working here.)
Anyway, they told me today that for some reason Contacts have been disappearing from one computer to another and no one is sure why.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
Are these contacts still on the E2? You might want to check HotSync settings on the PCs. For "Contacts", the default action should be "synchronize" (i.e. contacts will be synchronized both ways). In Palm Dektop, check whether the "hide private records" option (lock icon) is enabled.

These contacts are NOT still on the E2. They were lost from both the E2 and the PC. No one deleted them (as far as anyone knows and we are set to "confirm delete," so I don't think anyone could have not realized they were deleting a record.) It started on one computer (and everyone thought she was crazy when she said her contacts disappeared.) Then someone else had the same problem. It's possible the contacts all vanished at the same time and just no one noticed until they went to pull up the information. We've since added the contacts back to the PC but we have not hotsync-ed because we did not know what caused the problem initially.
Also, of all the PCs, there is only one who is set as the "primary." Could this be the cause of the problem? Or is it necessary to have one computer be the primary?
((EDIT: I found where to check for Contact synchronization, and it IS set to synchronize on THIS pc. I will have to check the others. Same with "hide private records" - I checked. This PC is set to "show private records."))
UPDATE:
All the PCs ARE set to "show private records" and synchronize Contacts, Calendar, etc.
Thanks again for the help!

Look at the .bak files in the hotsync name of the device folder, within the palm folder on the computers.
This is a very weird setup, well outside the bounds of what a Personal Digital Assistant is designed for, and is assured to have regular headaches.

I'm having trouble locating the .bak file you want me to check. In the folder named "D" in the "PalmOne" folder, I'm not seeing any .bak files. (I don't see a "Device" folder.) Also, when I DO find it, what am I checking it for?
I realize this is a weird set up. Like I said, this started before I began working here and I'm not sure why they thought it was a good idea. I appreciate any help you guys can give me. Thanks again.

when you find it, the're should be something listed as "contacts" unless someone changed the file name.
