Hi.
Unlike the SJ20 and SJ30 that have similar platforms, the Clie SL10 has a sync connection on the left side of the unit. I have been looking for a "Sync & Charge" cable that can plug into THAT connection. All sync & charge cables i've seen plug into the universal connector at the bottom of the unit. The Sony supplied cable is only a hotsync cable and therefore can't be used for charging too. Is the SL10 the only PDA with this connection? Please help!
It would be helpful when using a wireless keyboard. This way when i'm typing a larger paper, i can have the pda plugged in easily via a USB-AC adapter. I think the Clie won't be too stable while on a stand if there is a plug on the bottom of the Clie.
thank you.

I'm not sure but if I remember right the sync connection port on SL-10 is a ordinary mini-USB port that you can find stock cables for it.
As for "Sync-Chargers", well the SL-10 uses AAA batteries and does not have internal rechargeable mechanism, even if you put in some NiMH rechargeables inside. If you want to use rechargeables in SL-10, you have to buy an independet charger for the batteries instead.
On the matter of wireless keyboard, I'm not sure but I can only remember some IrDA ones which also act as stands for the PDA. I'm not sure if there's some using Bluetooth out there but SL-10 doesn't support Bluetooth anyway, even though you can add a Bluetooth MS but I guess that would be too expensive then.

I cannot "charge" the batteries inside the SL10. However, if i'm at school and typing up a paper, an AC adapter will allow me to use my PDA using AC power. My batteries won't get charged, but they won't get drained either. My objective is to save my batteries.

Can you help me out on this more? It looks like all those sync/charge cables have a fixed adapter that connects to the universal connector at the bottom. Maybe they're not fixed to the cable? I'm just not sure. What I need is one that will connect to the connection at the side of the Clie SL10. Such a cable will help me use a specific wireless keyboard more easily if I buy it.
(I have a specific wireless keyboard in mind- it doesn't use mirrors, but rather has two IR ports. it's all over ebay, but NOT the criticized micro innovations one).

OIC... Misunderstood your problem, sorry for that... :)
From this review (http://www.pdaforum.de/sl10/), I'm pretty sure it's a standard mini-USB port, in which you can get a cable like this (http://store.yahoo.com/lovemacs/zipusbc03.html) or this (http://www.cablewholesale.com/specs/10um-02106bl.htm).
In fact, the original sync cable from Sony is also a USB Type A to Mini-USB Type B cable with an adapter to convert Mini-USB Type B to the universal adapter underneath of other CLIEs.
HOWEVER, I'm not sure if SL-10 would be fed from the USB port or not. Normal USB cables do carry the power pin, however I'm not sure if the mini-USB port on SL-10 would accept power from the cable.
Of course, if you will, you can always do a MOD inside the CLIE to make it powerable from the USB port.

WoW!!! That looks great. How can I tell if a regular cable can be used for both syncing and charging (in my case for using AC power- with an adapter)? The Sony supplied cable only does hotsync.
Unfortunately, I have no idea how to make a MOD- maybe there's one floating around the internet?
(Did you notice while reading that review from PDAforum that you were reading in German? In any case, a picture speaks a million words-Thanks)

Yes I did, but Google helped translated it to English (or partial English, at least) anyway... :)
The problem is that... The SL-10 itself may not be designed to be powered from the USB port, if this is the case, then even if your USB cable is able to supply power, it won't help...
This is all I could tell for now... Sorry...
I guess you may need to find (borrow?) a cable and test it first (just take out the batteries and plug in the cable and see if you can turn the SL-10 on... Be warned you may erase all the data by doing this, so do a backup first.)...

Do all regular stock USB cables have sync AND charge capabilities? The cable provided by Sony only does hotsync, so how would i know if a cable has both capabilities or just hotsync?
thanks
