They are come and gone. 2 of them are being disassembled for parts as we speak and 2 more are coming in. I got TH55 owners sending me their broken TH55 for repairs. Half from overseas like Italy, UK, Brazil, as Sony repair over there suck, I suppose.

I need to have at least 3 THs on hand. One is always in my pocket. Second one is a backup. The third one is for testing those parts. Check this thread (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83569&page=1) if you have TH55 that needs repair cheaply. ;)

- No need for a web browser to display.
- Images can be read within weather info refresh, or only when selected for viewing.

alanIt's a nice feature. If you have multiple locations and delete a location, without this feature, the maps would stay in RAM forever unless you go into a file manager and manually delete them. Even then you can't tell which .pdb files belong to which city, so you delete them all and then resync your kept city(s). ;)

I'd like to suggest a feature enhancement. I would like to see the Current Conditions data continue to be displayed at top of the screen when viewing the text forecast (3rd screen) in 320x480 screen mode as it displays for the first two screens of information.

Also, on the maps screens, is there any way to use the right/left buttons on the Sony Clie TH55 to get the map to move right/left? Right now the right/left buttons move the maps up/down which is the opposite of how I would imagine them to work. However, the scroll wheel does move the map up/down, so that's good.

This is the same type of problem that caused PTVB (Pocket TV Browser) to switch from scrapping data from Yahoo and having to make frequent updates to his code. That and a letter from Yahoo that said that they wanted him to stop scrapping data. ;)

So what does everyone think about my map/city icon idea from above? I would like to be able to tap a map icon and get the list of maps, and a city icon for a list of cities.

The later one exists already, though it's a button, not an icon. If you tap the button displaying your current sync city, the select city window is presented with a scroll list of cities. The map one might be a good addition. ;)

#1 I'm using the pre-programmed maps.

#2 I used the installation executeable within the zip archive (I extracted the whole archive to a folder on my desktop). I believe that installs all needed files.

Using the built in refresh option, I was unable to pull maps last night (forcast did update, but no maps were pulled, tried multiple times). Maps were pulled when my scheduled morning hotsync happened. I will see if I can duplicate this oddity when I get home.

Doesn't surprise me. My Yahoo maps are frequently out of date (by 24-36 hours sometimes), so completely unavailable seems the next logical step. Hopefully, Shimon will be able to add more custom maps in the near future. (I requested that recently and he said he might be able to do it soon-ish.)

We have had a week of heat advisories here in KC and I appreciate the scarlet "A" at the top of the screen. However, I often use 4cast in a one-handed fashion as it works so well in that manner. I would like to suggest that it be coded so that we may access the "A" via one hand, e.g. scroll to it and select it so that we can easily see the alerts.

Occasionally, there is a hiccup in their listing service, but I can only remember a couple of times in the last year. You just have to "register" every 6 months or so and take a short survey. Not too much a pain, really. You have to tweak the program a bit for it to work, but ther e are instructions at the ptvb website.

True, and I still use PTVB via Zap2it as well. It's a great program! However, changes/updates pretty much stopped after Yahoo pulled the plug on data scrapping it's site via a letter from their attorney. Also Yahoo frequently changed the format of the webpage and PTVB had to be modified each time Yahoo made a change. So, the topic is germane because I hope that we don't see that sort of thing happening to 4cast.

Pretty much. He developed it to the point of switching to Evolve and Zap2it, and then after a few minor troubleshooting upgrades all development stopped. Now a terrific product is basically abandonware.

However, after entering my location information (I tried if from the pre-installed list, ZIP code, or the code from weather.yahoo.com) I don't get any weather information. I use update via the built-in Wi-Fi. It only says "No data read". What am I doing wrong?

I think Yahoo! is making changes on the fly. Today and several times, I don't get maps. I tried to test another site to see if it was just my city/region, so I chose Seattle, WA. I got a message that the city code has changed and I should delete and add it back.

How about you modify the hotsync conduit for a timeout? Or error detection. As it is right now, if it tries to read the error webpage, it holds hotsync forever, and won't release it or terminate the hotsync, without using task manager / kill process. Oooook! :eek:

I have been getting yesterday's forecast on my Zodiac2 when I refresh by wifi. When I refresh on my T3 using wifi, I sometimes get today's and sometimes yesterdays. Both using version 1.70 (005). The city code is USFL049.
I have checked the hotsync method using my Zodiac (I don't sync my T3 at home), and it seems to be working fine that way.

Before everyone goes posting that it's not working:
When you encounter a hotsync, or wifi update that doesn't work - do the following.

Find a regular computer, head to weather.yahoo.com and view your city's weather forcast. (It's likely that you won't be able to view it.) If you can view it, but it still won't update on your palm, then there is a problem. Otherwise, just wait for the webpage to update...

No. I don't use any special setups. Blazer, Versamail and Quicknews just work with normal settings. I also use the standard Palm networking settings and I don't use proxies or port forwarding etc. There's also no log entry being produced. It's a shame. I really like 4cast a lot. Perhaps somebody else has some ideas? I will keep on looking into this, although I have no ideas right now.

Update via hotsync works fine on my TX. :) Wireless update only works when I don't use my home LAN (for some unknown reason). When I use my neighbour's Wi-Fi (only for test purposes) it works. :confused:

I think this depends on the relevant timing of when you make the refresh, and the "true for" time of the forecast at Yahoo site -
Since Yahoo seems to update the forecast for some of the cities not every hour, there can be a situation where - for example:

The forecast the Yahoo site shows is true for 11:50pm, and you make a refresh on 5:50am (six hours later).
Now 4cast will show "true for yesterday"...

Nice background! However, I think that I like the old icons better. How about looking into a popup Alerts feature while your having a look at 4cast again? An alert would popup as a message when you first turn on your PDA after 4cast receives an Alert. I don't think that the competition has this. ;)

I was just thinking that reading the previous post. Meteorologists have a tough enough time with 5 days.

I also like the new icons. However, when using a dark background, the icons for the wind, humidity, etc, show up with a white outline. And the new ones do not have this. See attached screenshots.

I finally broke down and bought 4Cast after giving up forever on Agendus (too damn crashy and lacking UI updates that have annoyed me for years). I happy set up the Zlauncher plugin with the ZLToday plugin and have a nice, stable, fast entry screen on my TX that can easily be customized. Nice!

I do have a couple of questions:

1) How do you add a custom map? Where do you get the URLs for this?

2) What are the dimensions needed for the background in portrait view on a TX?

3) When I tap the ZL 4cast plugin, it takes me to 4Cast but then scrolls to Today (sometimes later in the week). Is this a bug? If not, is it possible to get a preference in the future to jump to Today or straight to the top?

Would it be possible to make a full screen mode, I personally don't need to know it uses Yahoo, nor the F/C, and a hot key for refresh would be better for me. I'd also like option to use a text shadow instead of an outline.

I guess basically I am torn between 4cast's functionality and Treo Weather's gorgeous looks. I bought both. Neither is perfect for me, and I'm also using the weather slot in Agendus, and my launcher MegaLauncher again uses its own Today weather plugin. Not to mention the weather view in Palmary Clock. I guess basically I am torn between 4cast's functionality and Treo Weather's gorgeous looks. I bought both. Neither is perfect for me, and I'm also using the weather slot in Agendus, and my launcher MegaLauncher again uses its own Today weather plugin. Not to mention the weather view in Palmary Clock. Nope, I want the eye candy and the info in one. It seems the ones that have the eye candy are short on info and vice versa. gx-5's UI screams out to be duplicated in every Palm app possible. I want to feel like my device belongs in 2007, not 1999.

Not that this is a big deal in my life though :D

With the background I am using for 4cast, I need the border. However, I don't really want a border for the DB6 plugin. Any way that these can be separate settings?

Bug report: I am using DB6.1a, pj (the latest from the Yahoo group), and 4cast 1.70 (037). I can cause my TH55 to freeze when looking at the DB6 Today screen, and tapping on the 4cast pluggin area. Repeatable every time.

Update: Well I don't get it. I added the shsh device status pluggin, and it triggered a reset. Now my 4cast pluggin seems to work okay and takes me to 4cast when I tap it in DB6. However, the text is a nasty bold font. It came up once in normal text after the reset, but not since then.

LanMan--I have the same versions of DB6 and 4Cast but I have not seen what you've experienced with either plug-in. Unfortunately, I can't explain why. As for the bold, I'm trying to get used to it :) At least I can pick out the info on the Today screen more easily.

I think I like the old default background picture more. Can I suggest that the application ship with a selection of say 5 for us to choose from? I know that you can "user select" your own but I'd have to digitize a photo and prep it, much more handy to just use one supplied.

Also I think it would be great to have a few more display options, like stretching an image vertically or horizontally. I have also noticed a bug with custom images, when I select an image that is 320*480, and put the dia up it resizes the image (making the screen white on the right), instead of just cutting off the bottom. And last but not least, could the general speed of the app be increased? I have noticed the speed be treacherously slow when executing options (which require the dia going up and down), but don't get this confused with updating the weather, that is surprisingly fast as always!

For now - you can set it to not show wallpaper at all - to return to the way it was before.

I just go (041). Nice graphing! Is the graph supposed to overlay the sun images? When viewing in portrait on my TH55 the graph is positioned over the top of the sun images with the graffiti area is dropped. However, if I raise the graffiti area the the graph is repositioned below the sun images.

Would there be some way to make the fonts bold in 4cast yet remain smaller in DB6. I have trouble seeing them against a wallpaper now and would like to use a border. This is strange - as far as I recall the font was never bold within 4cast - only in the 4cast lines in dbk6 display.

Anyway - afraid changing the fonts in the 4cast main screen will affect it's looks and readability, so - poll:

I'm glad I bought this--thanks for another great update! Here's a request: placing a small button on the plug-in (on the datebk6 today page for example) that enables one to initiate a refresh without having to enter 4Cast itself. Thanks for your consideration!
