Well I ordered a SJ33 CLIÉ from Amazon.com and I don't have enough money to buy a Memory Stick yet. So is there a way I can still download software on my Clie or do I have to have a memory stick in order to download my software? Also if I can download without a memory stick how much memory can I download up to then?

Yes, you can download stuff to your Clie when you get it.

One more thing, how much memory does my Clie have? Because when I download I don't want to waste all of the memory.

Most Clie's have 16 MB. This actually holds a lot of applications/data under PalmOS.

To see how much memory you have available,

1. Tap on The house icon to get the application page
2. Tap on the battery image at the top of the screen.

This will briefly display how much free memory you have.

I bought my Clie after talking to my sister who is a serious Palm user. She has 8MB in her system, and no hardware expansion possibility. She has a number of applications she put on the palm including Agendus, and a wordprocessor. She stores all her contacts, uses the calendar, and writes notes on her palm. When I see her in November she is writing a novel on her palm (for novel-writing-month).

She also has some ebooks on her palm.

With 16MB memory, I have several applications that I loaded - some from the Clie CD, others from the Web. I have most of my addresses listed, and a calendar, etc. I still have over 3MB free. Soon I will delete more applications as I decide that they are not useful for me, and their trial period ends.

Unless you plan on displaying lots of photos, or playing MP3s, you probably don't need a memory stick. And, you can always get one later.

I use a memory stick to keep not-so-important apps on such as games.....I also use a program called BackupBuddy VFS to do scheduled backups everynight at 5 min after midnight (to the mem stick). I have JPG images on there as well, I use AcidImage to keep pics of my new boy with me (OK, hes slightly used now but he was new).

Mem sticks can be had pretty cheap and are required for a few things such as MP3 and images for many popular launchers (if your into background images). They are really handy for backups and the Clie comes with a pretty decent backup program which you, as a new user, might want to try out - your bound to mess this thing up a few times before you master the palm.

Good luck with your new device.

Thank you. Another thing, is it possible for everything on the Clie to be deleted like a computer...I sure hope not though.

If you do happen to lose stuff you can do a hard reset (there will be instructions with it) and it will return your Clie to the exact same state as it was when you first bought it. The reason this is possible is the operating system and applications are stored in a "different" kind of memory then the other stuff you put on it and this type of memory is permanent (unless you really start tweaking around with JackFlash and such).
