View Full Version : I finally got my dream mac! :)

I know this is a little off-topic, but I have been using a PC for the last 6-7 years and finally bought myself a mac. I am a designer and used macs throughout design school, but never bought a mac for myself. I just bought the G4 1.42ghz duel processor. :)
I honestly love working in the mac environment, but there are a few things that keep me on my pc like hotsyncing my NX70.
Just a few questions... :)
I bought microsoft office for mac and it has entourage. Anyone else use this? How does it compair to just using mail, ical, and addressbook? I am assuming that I can hotsync to any of these programs right? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hey lightninja,
You should try Missing Sync which supports Clie on Mac's with OS X and 9. I don't personally have a Mac but many people are using this software to use their Clie's with Mac.
Goodluck!

I-sync works great. But to load your MS with your MP3's you need to load missing sync. A useful link www.limewire.com you can find great mac software there. Have you tried using BT to sinc your mac and clie?

You can get The Missing Sync here:

Definitely go and get MissingSync. It's well worth the money to get your CLIE and Mac sync'ing w/ no problems.

thanks guys. I'll be sure to check it out. Do you think I would be able to sync to both ical and entourage at the same time? I love ical's interface, but entourage seems to be more robust.

I've used both, but iCal just seemed nicer. Email in Entourage was just so slow, and iCal just integrates so well.

I was just playing around with syncing both a few days ago, and I don't think it's possible to do it simultaneously. One replaces the other in your Hotsync conduit list. Also, I wanted to sync contacts to Entourage and the datebook to iCal, but it won't let you assign individual PIM functions to different programs. So for now I'm syncing everything to Entourage because I use it for e-mail and I like having my contacts there. It seems to work pretty well. If anybody knows a way around the Hotsync limitations, I'd be very interested to hear it.

I prefer Entourage to iCal and iSync etc. It's considerably faster than iCal (not sure what the previous comment about slowness was about) and there are more options, plus it's all in one app. In order to sync your memos, calendar, and address books you need three applications (Palm Desktop for memos, iCal for Calendar and Todo and Address book for addresses) to take the place of Entourage.

I'm with icruise, Entourage is great. You'll need to get the free entourage conduit from Microsoft, and as others said the wonderful Missing Sync software

But Entourage is so plain looking compared to iCal.

Hi guys, I am so tired of Windows...
I an moving to MAC, I will buy a G4. I have never used a MAC, but my peers are telling me that it looks like a good thing. I am tired of crashes everyday with windows. All my Clié softwares are not quite welcomed in my Pentium III Sony VIAO.
I am kind of scared that the Clié and 3rd party programs like pocket Quicken and Wordsmith may not wor with it.
but this is my real emergency. I have a Sony Clié and my wife has a Palm. Can we both sync in Palm desktop for MAC?

My outlook hang again for the nth time last friday night and I had decided enough is enough. I bought G4 17" the next day without hestitation. I begin to learn now how to use Mac as I never have them before or use them. I am trying to figure how to synch my clie with Isynch and ical. I just made that gutsy decision and now happily with my G4 eventhough i am trying to figure the Palm desktop synching with Clie. The Mac OS X is so simple and easy to handle...just like palm OS. I had manage to transfer all my data from my PC to Mac....

You should be able to set up two users and have no problems syncing.
The third part stuff is no problem at all. I use Wordsmith and Pocket Quicken without a hitch.

One more thing, you will need to get Missing Sync software from www.markspace.com
It's worth every nickel.

Thank you so much guys, you don't know what a nightmare it has been to make the decision to move from PC to MAC, I hope I never regret it.

I had my G4 for 2 days now and I am very happy about it. I was able to synch with desktop 4.1 without hassle. I don't use Missing Synch though. I will try the MS stuff later and try synch with Ical. G4 is cool...

at least for me to synch with Desktop 4.1 is not necessary. Please note that I use OS X Ver 10.2
You need The Missing Sync so that you can mount your Memory Stick using MSImport. From there, you can use iPhoto and iTunes with your Clie. :)

Some clie's will sync out of the box without Missing Sync, while others will not. Mine will not, at least with Palm Desktop 4.0
Still waiting to hear from nr70v user who has upgraded to 4.1 for report on bugs before I move forward.

The rumor is that anything with a DSP chip (MP3 compatibility) will NOT sync out of the box with Palm Desktop for Mac. Those PDA's require Missing Sync. However, all CLIE's that you want iTunes and iPhoto compatibilty with, as well as MS mounting, requires missing sync.
