does anyone know if it's possible to make a cable/device with a dummy sony memory stick on one end and a mini usb to go into a portable hard drive on the other?
i have a usb to card reader so i must be half way there already.
what i'm trying to achive is to plug my portable hard drive into my sony device wich has a memory stick socket on it. i would like to be able to read and write to the hard drive which has a considerably larger capacity than just a memory stick alone.

I have no clue. I've been trying to figure out the same thing. Let me know what you come up with.

Here's a link to what I think you were wondering about. Notice he updates the thread saying " don't get this" but maybe some one else could make it last longer.

pookkie, i dont think that what he ments. the datel drive is ms due -> cf adapter, that run an internal microdrive.
but theoretically it can be done.
what you need is ms->msdue adapter, msdue->cf adapter (http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=308&products_id=7635&) and ide cf card (connect ide drive to cf slot)
let us know how it works ;)

What I think you need to do is find out what the pin-out is on the Memory stick and compare it to the mini usb, usb only has 4 pins. Usb to mini usb still only 4 pins at either end, the 2 outer contacts are voltage and ground the center contacts are data. If the mem. stick pin-out seems to that simple it might work for you. The only concern I have is that I think you'll need some kind of interface ie. usb interface ,so when connected to the drive it will reconize it and communicate with it. At any rate it looks like you may have to do some experimenting on your own if possible. Here's a link for the pinout of memory stick.
