There appears to be a software limitation in AOL MAIL that allows you to ONLY dial-up. Is there ANY way to check my mail via a LAN connection? What an oversite on AOL's part if not....

AOL does everything in a non-standard fashion, enough to drive one crazy.
Below is an old thread from another user of AOL, I don't if it will help you or not. Those who have tried AOL DSL gave up.
How I surf with my clie using adhoc, a wifi laptop, and AOL dialup
First off many thanks to all the users of this forums for their help with this subject. And second I would like to say I am in no way an expert in networks or configuring computers!! This method was found through trial and error and lots of long frustrating nights.
I finally got this to work with my AOL dialup, a Sony laptop with built in wifi, and my clie.
You will need a copy of PPPshar lite http://www.pppindia.com/intl/pppshar. download, install and follow the instructions to setup your ip address.
Clie Settings:
IP: 192.168.0.3
Sub:255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.2
DNS: 192.161.0.2
I found that if I don't enter a dns I was unable to connect to anything.
Laptop Settings:
Internet Sharing was enabled on the wifi adapter.
You can find your ip settings for your computer using the run command in the start bar of xp by typing in cmd /k ipconfig
wifi card;
IP: 192.168.0.2
Sub: 255.255.255.0
Make sure that in your wifi network settings under TCP/IP you select properties and assign the ip and sub. listed above this sentence. Now you need to click advanced on the wifi adapter screen, and press the settings button at the bottom right corner and select web server from the list, then press edit and enter your gate way IP listed under the PPP adapter with the cmd /k ipconfig command.
I use Pocket Link II, so this may vary depending on what you use. Under options/network select UseProxy and enter in 192.168.0.2 and use port 81.
If you have done all of this correctly and enabled PPPshar Lite you should be able to browse the internet with your Clie!! I will be posting detailed instructions with pictures on my website in the near future.
Note: I have not been able to use clie mail, or Avantgo with these settings and I will be looking into this later when I have time.

I have no clue, it was archived in my email. I save some things in case Cliesource takes a tumble again. BTW, why are you following me around?

Actually that doesnt get you access to PALM AOL, just internet access. Palm AOL does not seem to have a setting for LAN or TCP/IP, only dial-up. When you hit connect, it tries to dial by defautl.....DANG!

I can use aol 3.1 fine. Just click on the aol app, click on sign on, then click on the arrow and change "Adding a locla access number" to "Using another ISP". Then make sure i have wireless setup to be the default connection, then i hit next and type in my pword and hit sign on..that's it.

I used AOL palm app (the free one from AOL UK) for a while. I used with Softick PPP and worked nice a couple of times. Then i tried it with a Ambicom Modem and crashed my NX hard. I had to do a hard reset. Sad story is i didn't delete the app right away and a couple of weeks later i accidentally ran it. Hard reset again. Now it's gone and i'm investigatin verichat.
