Hey
http://www.palmpowerups.com/index.php
skinUI 1.1.0.0 is out
It has added much more detailed colorization to skins, and appropriate skin import support. Skinning project has also been updated to reflect these latest changes. Download is from the front page or the dowloads secction. Price is $10.95. Skins are available in the skins section, and some extra importable skins can be found in a special section
Trick
when installing the new skinui (1.1.0.0) I continued using vista - inspirat, but whenever I closed skinui I got a crash in mini-keyboard popup. When disabling it in uncache no such crash but not what I am looking for - so I changed the skin to cobalt and - no crash. I changed back to vista - inspirat - no crash anymore.
Seems skinui can heal itself (:--))

Question for Dmitry: With the changes to Skinning Project, is it more user friendly? If I recall, some of our skinners who have tried their hand at both SkinUI and PalmRevolt indicated they preferred skinning in PR. This "perception" will ultimately drive the influx of new skins over time! ;)

I have to say that this version actually works quite well on the T3 (I haven't tried it on this device since an early 0.9 release). Being a registered PalmRevolt user, I'm thinking about jumping ship. I can actually skin DateBk and not have to wait 1-2 seconds for everything to be skinned/redrawn. (And changing the PR settings to not skin DB results in lots of bleed through issues between dialog boxes and such for some reason.)

HpSkinStudio supports skinUI, and JJesusFreak's skinning project is ALMOST up to date. I might make a skinning app and a on-desktop previewer soon.

Thanks Dmitry.

I verified that "Import" now gives you WYSIWYG, importing DBH's Cobalt DBH Mod and I got the yellow menu text! Whoo Hooo! You got my vote, Dmitry. I hope to get my reg code in minutes!
Also, with the import now working flawlessly, one can collect the fish (skins) from both ponds (PR & SkinUI). ;)

I will be getting my skin UI license ASAP as well...They both seem so great. Now, I can import all of my PR skins into UI, but not the other way around, right? If anyone wants to do a side by side with the new versions of both, that would be cool...

I've never used the import feature before. I tried putting the PR skins in the skinui directory on the card, but it says no importable skins found. Where do they need to be?

You will be asked "Do you want to delete original" after import is completed. The newly made SkinUI skin is also in RAM, so do a "Move" to place it in the SkinUI directory on your card.

Thanks - that was going to be my next move anyway. :)
skinUI definitely has more features, and I was ready to buy it during the first 0.9 versions. But as the versions progressed, it was getting worse for me instead of better. I can actually use skinUI if I don't start YAHM and Lightspeed, but I use those apps. Who knows, maybe someday if I ever get an upgrade from this T2, I may consider checking out skinUI again. That doesn't mean I would "jump ship" on PalmRevolt... I like the app, for one, and I've been working with Andrew for a while now and have gotten to know him a bit.
They are both good apps and both programmers deserve a round of applause! :D
Dmitry, congratulations on finally releasing skinUI. You've made many people very happy! :D

Here's a side by side comparison of my favorite skin Blues Boy (Andrew had it on the 3GX site for one day then the developer asked him to take it off, because he felt it had programming issues - in all the time I've used PR I've used it with the BB skin and had no problems)
Palmrevolt / SkinUI (imported)
http://slug.ca.aecom.yu.edu/screenshots/bluesboy_PR.jpg / http://slug.ca.aecom.yu.edu/screenshots/bluesboy_SUI.jpg
there is obviously still some problem with the import feature. Although it is not severe. I used the builtin contacts app in the edit mode. the buttons that lose the skinning lose it in several other imported skins I've tried.
What does SkinUI have that PalmRevolt doesn't (besides the import feature)?
wellsjs
03-10-2006, 01:20 PM
The interface is much nicer. You can see 8 skin choices vs. 3 with PR. You can individually select from a list of objects to skin or not skin. I personally like that SkinUI actually skins (rather than just color) the day-of-week tabs in Agendus Pro split view (Gant is an EXCELLENT one to see this). Since I use that application a lot, what may seem minor is actually a little more major! :)
applejosh
03-10-2006, 01:22 PM
Beats me, although I'm sure someone has a comprehensive list. I just know it works with very very little impact in DateBk. PalmRevolt was slow to render objects, and if I disabled it in DateBk because of the speed aspect, there was bleed through between dialog boxes. SkinUI just works better in this one regard for me (and since I spend about half my time in DateBk, it was an important regard).

I noticed in checking native skinui skins that skinui doesn't seem to skin those unskinned butons in my previous post at all! I hadn't noticed this before because I was either using PR or not going into apps where these buttons show up. So the inverse of your question's answer is that it seems that PR skins some stuff that SUI doesn't.

Hopefully, Dmitry will see that he's missed a couple of buttons (uncommon to many apps) and will add them. As noted earlier, SkinUI skins some things that PR doesn't also, like the S,M,T,W,T,F,S tabs in Agendus split-view. I'll post side-by-sides as soon as my importing of a gazillion PR skins finishes!

Hi.
I am ready to pay my $11 but I am only getting the demo when I try to download. The zip file says demo and the PRC won't install because it tells me it's a demo and is expired.
I have tried both the Download and the home page. But everyone else here got the 1.x PRC.
So, what am I doing wrong?
Thanks.

It sounds like you might have installed it previously and tried it? If so you need to clean out your preferences where it still shows up. Cleanup is a good app to have for those chores. Dmitry may be of more help.

Hi Dmitry.
Thanks for the quick reply, but no, it doesn't work and it's very weird.
Even when I click on the link above I get skUIdemo.zip. I used both Firefox and IE, cleared the cache and the cookies and everything.
Very, very strange.
Is the file online anywhere else? Or, Dmitry, can you just e-mail it to me? I sent you my address.
Thanks! Peter W.

That's what I figured this morning, so I went ahead and downloaded it anyway, installed the prc and was told it was beta and had expired. Then when I looked around all I saw was files marked demo and I figured the wrong file was posted. Then I saw others on 1src had it, and got very confused.
Maybe I was getting a cached file from my ISP? The one that just installed was from the URL you posted, Dmitry.
Anyway...I am off to give you $11.

they arent that big. in fact if you run them through the skin compressor on the PC they all become around 35-40 KB. on palm with maximum compresion they become 100K or so.
[if you tried same compression blocksize on palm as PC does, you'd be waiting till doomsday for it to finish compression]

What's the date of the prc in the zip file? Mine was dated March 10th, 2:03am. Your ISP could very well be caching, depending on what service you have. (If you have one of those fancy "fast" dial-up services like NetZero, it's entirely possible.) I downloaded it around 4am this morning and got the new version.

Which ZL Theme is that? And, forgive my ignorance, but the bottom screenshot has the DIA showing, and Status Bar, but not the Virtual Graffiti? I know, it's a dumb question, but I usually skip the threads that have anything about DIAs, as I don't have one! :D

Wouldn't work worth a hoot on my TH55! :p The VG/SB are Chrome & Brushed Graphite (http://www.zlthemes.com/ProductDetailListing.php?PID=60) by "the_iceman," and guess who the SkinUI (imported White Spirit PR skin) is by? :)

I am a bit... dumb. I installed the app and didnt disable palmrevolt before. After installation my smoothfonts were gone!!! Any idea of why was that? is it possible to use them both at the same time?I haven't tried and don't care to. You can certainly have them both loaded and since they require a reset after loading, I assume they both are in a sense active. I set the one I don't want to use to default skin and work with the other one exclusively.
The easiest way to undo whatever happened is to restore your backup (you did do a backup, right?), select the default skin in PR, and then install SkinUI and begin using. I'm using FontSmoother with both installed with no problems, using only one of them at the time.

That is dangerous. I own both apps and switch between them using PowerRun. the method I use is
start PowerRun and move the current skinning app to the card
move the other skinning app from the card to RAM
start the skinning app in RAM and select the skin I wish to use

Hello, Church Punk, welcome to 1src. I had a similar problem with an earlier version on SkinUI and FontSmoother on my T|X. If I tried to use both at the same time, I would get the inevitable reset, and YAHM was simply wiped from RAM, hence the disabling of FontSmoother. If this is the problem you are having, I can positively say the problem was solved with the latest build of SkinUI. I tested extensively with other apps installed/uninstalled as well. A couple of real troublemakers were Codediver and SyncBack. Simply removing these last two helped stablize my T|X greatly, giving me less resets, and fewer times having to reload YAHM. So far, with this last build, I've had no problems at all with the two coexisting. I used PalmRevolt for the past couple of months, waiting for a new SkinUI build, and in that time I loaded up UDMH and UnCache, both of which I am 100% sure stablized my T|X tremendously.
Just thought I would post a bit of feedback. I'm happy SkinUI is working well again on my device.
