View Full Version : Very strange behaviour w. BackUpMan
Hi everyone!
I have a strange behaviour with BackUpMan: when I tap restore all files after a hardreset, it refuses to restore Netfront and the W-Lan driver.
I have to install them manually again after the restore...
What could be the problem? Has anyone else had this experience?
Are there any better backup tools?
thx for your help
cheers Nicolas

I know it will not backup NetFront as it warns you at the first time you run the program, but I'm not sure about the WLAN driver. NetFront has some form of copy-right protection that stops you from copying it to your memory stick, so I guess this is why BackupMan doesn't even brother to crack its copy-right protection.

So how would you go about it if you use Netfront? Having the install prc file as a archived file in a folder on the MS?
With the w-lan driver it is strange that it is working for you and not for me:confused:
Are any other good backup tools? I loved BackUpBuddy but since it is not running under under PalmOS5 (yet) I had not much choice. I do not like the MSbackup tool preinstalled, it has no scheduled backup...

You have two good choices on what to do with Netfront. You could purchase Jackflash and place it into Flash. Or you could run it from the MS using PowerRun. I've done both and both work well.
My current setup is Netfront running using PowerRun, and I have the Wifi driver (CFWL100Neti file) in Flash. After a Backupman restore, I have to go to Prefs-Network once; I don't have to do anything once there, but I have to go there, and then the Wifi driver works again.

Thanks for the tips...
Have not dared to use Jackflash yet, but there are hundreds of happy users it seems!
Whats strange about the Wifi driver is that the setting in networks is still there but when I check with files the file CFWL100Neti has only a few k's! Normally it has 87,2k...
But again I think I will get JackFlash and move it and Netfront to flash:p

I've been using Jackflash for a couple of years, and the past month on my NX. I can see why people are nervous about it, but there's really no reason to be. Go for it. It's the cheapest 3.5 MB upgrade available!!

I had to manually restore not only the WLAN driver, but the system update patch too, so you might want to check it. Yes, it did restore some, but not all, especially the ones that hook into the operating system.
So now, I keep a copy of both on my MS and install it from there, in the likely event of having to restore from a hard reset.
BTW, I have been reluctant to use JF too, so your not alone :)!
