I saw the freeware program Dummy 1.0 (PalmGear link) (http://palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&PartnerREF=&siteid=1&prodID=119795) listed on one of the Palm RSS feeds the other day (but I can't find the backlink right now). The reviewer was sort of laughing at it, and sort of confused. The description didn't help much either: This applications does absolutely nothing. It was created to make system Prefs / Button happy on my Treo. The Button allows you to define what application you want to run when you hit special hardware buttons. I wanted none to be assigned here for one of the buttons (used in other app), but the Palm forgot to foreseen that option and I had to choose the applications. So I created Dummy and feed Button prefs with it. And now we're both happy now ;) So whenever you have to configure some app to be invoked on some events, and you don't really want to do so. Unless you got other option, this dummy is for you ;)
Here's what I did with it: I assigned it to a hard key, and it works just like the power button.

The TX has a lousy power button, I had to send my first TX back for replacement. There are ways to assign any program to any hard button, but there's no "do nothing" option. By assigning "Dummy" to a hard key, I can switch my TX on and stay in whatever application was running when the TX turned off.

Was that clearer?

Wow! The quoted description is one of the best and most straightforward pieces of writing I've seen in a long time!

I just have one question: Is it further from New York to Chicago, or by bus?

:D

I wish someone would create an app to turn off the vioce record button on the NX60. I keep having to delete garlbed voice files that last for 30 or so minutes. I sometimes forget to turn on HOLD and the VR is the only reason I need it anyways. ARGHH

Maybe this is for another thread?

@ developer:
Great!!! it seems that palm uses only minor quality (poweR)buttons
in their products... My fathers TE has a frozen (No movement able) powerbutton
my T5 powerbutton is also near death and now you come with your app. Cool.
But I have a feature request for next minor update ;)
What about adding a small picture like the palmlogo or somthing like that that shows up instead of showing a flashing boring white screen?

regards
David

PS: For further versions you can make a skinable UI and a contest *lol* :D
