View Full Version : Slow connection?

I notice, it takes substantially longer for me to pull up a web page on my Clie using the WL100 wifi card than on my desktop.

They are both connected to the same wireless hub/router.

Is the bottle neck the network card, or the program/processor?

Anyway to test network speed on this thing?

I tried going to DSL reports to do the speed test using both Netfront and Avantgo OS5 beta, but neither seems to support Java, so no test.

I also tried pinging with large buffer packets, but can't seem to ping past 4096 bytes (4kb), so can't really get any info.

By the way, ping from desktop to Clie is about 60ms. Is that OK sounding?

Under prefs wireless network advanced settings...

Make sure the PowerSaveMode is unchecked!!!

Every newbie persists in putting a check there and it's totally counter productive!

Why is it there then?

A good question, but I don't remember why, but I do remember there was a long article about it. It's dumb really, because if the WiFi card drops power, it'll drop the connection. If you don't have a connetion, then it isn't using power, so where's the savings?

n2ifp, thanks for the tip, I'll try it out when browsing the web with the PowerSaveMode unchecked, becoz I encounter the same case myself with the slow connection and have to wait endlessly for the page to load up.
