View Full Version : Coolest thing YOU do with your NX...

What is the coolest thing YOU do with yoru NX?

Ill start-

DEFINATELY win-hand. WIth winhand I can:: (through wlan card)

Be at any AP in the world, and start up winhand. Then I can just navigate to msn explorer on my laptop (but viewing it on my clie) and attach a file from my comps. hd and send it to myself. Then I go into Clie Mail (all wlan) and sync it up with the email I just sent. It goes onto my CLie, and Viola! A file that was on my comps HD now onto the Clie.

I think that is cool, so everyone chip in with what you do with your NX>

I use mine to take snapshots of work in progress while on the job. I send out daily progress reports and updated time sheets along with discription of work or issue's that need to be resolved. This works great for job tracking and a visual reference is very impressive. I can do all this and email from either my cellphone right on the job site or from wireless LAN connection when I return.

Playing movies on Airplane flights is a nice bonus too! =)

Everyone in my classes seems pretty impressed when i pull it out to take notes on. No notebooks, i just pull it out of my pocket and type on the built in keyboard. I can probably type pretty close to 40 wpm w/ it, and i've never fallen behind while typing it, well unless it's an occasion where the handwriting people do too.

I would have to say that I can do some pretty cool stuff with my NX70v.

This will probably just turn into a feature list of the NX, but...

So I got the Second Screen TV deal working, so it is a TV guide.

I can web browse with it via wireless.

I am on a Mac, so I use Missing Sync, and iSync to do syncs. It works great and all adresses go onto my palm, and the ipod, and my computer.

I can use Virtual PC to sync wirelessly, unless I have my airport extreme card installed in my Mac, in witch case I can't get a real IP address on Virtual PC, thus a no go...

I can use it to control my TV's and VCR's, my XBox dvd player....

take video, audio and pictures I have taken with the NX and upload it to an ftp server, download from the FTP server, send emails, and do AIM!

I am not going to go any further. this thing is almost as cool as my new G4 1.42Ghz machine. minus the dvd burner and dual 20inch monitors... I think the better question is what can't I do with it... and that would be only 1 thing... wardrive. :( oh well, hopefully soon. Thanks for a place to brag.

I use it to take notes as well . But dont you think the noise the keys make when you press them is annoying in a quiet class? (no, not the beep noise, the little click sound they make) I mostly use the stylus. I just wish there were an app i could take notes with (in text form not drawing notes with the clie memo app.) and draw diagrams on at the same time...

I guess my greatest use is photographing documents when I'm on an intelligence gathering mission. Then using my Bluetooth memory stick to upload the photos to my Sony-Ericsson T68i and sending the PGP encrypted data to CIA HQ in Langley. If anyone reads this, I'll have to hunt you down and kill you because this is classified information.

Ok, you mean you have the infrared port for your playstation? I think you should be able to control it with remote commander, especially since playstation is from sony.

Best Buy is a store here in the U.S. that sell lots of electronic stuff. One reason you hear a lot about them is people complaining about their policies and talking about the recent sale in the wlan100 wifi card for 16.99(I missed it!!! KILL ME) Cheers

Take pictures and movies of my 2 kids. When I'm at work and miss them I fire it up and watch them for a few minutes. When customers want to see pics of my kids, I some them movies. I dont know what they are more amazed at, how cute my kids are or how cool my nx-70 is. Either way I'm the proud papa of both!

Have you all been to one of those local coffee/bakery shops in HKG or down in Chinatown somewhere, where they have like a TV there? Sometimes I dislike their channel and can use the remote function and change the channel myself without being noticed! Makes your time go alot faster during your lunch hour! :D

got it to work!! :D

Settings:

Category DVD
Maker Sony
Mode: Mode1

It works with the Sony PS2 remote and IR. Too bad the PS2 doesn't support remote power on/off.

[edit] Unfortunately, the Clie can only control functions once the DVD is playing. It does not control Playstation functions such as the browser, or controls during games. That's what threw me off.

I think the coolest thing I do on my NX would be multitasking without overhead. I mean, just look at this list:

I can have NetFront running a webpage in the background while there is AIM with 20 IM windows open, which is also all in the background to Sheet To Go, which is on the screen, while my attention is on the graffiti area where a silk calc is as I calculate a total to enter it into the spreadsheet, and all of this is in the foreground as I play some Metallica in the background.

So let's see, that's a web-browser, 20 IM sessions, spreadsheet, calculator, and MP3 player all at the same time.

Gotta love it!

Pocket P-what? :D

I live in NC, USA. And sad to say it, if you havent picked up a WiFi card for 16.99 yet. You wont. I was talking to the BB guy at the PDA counter (he actually knows what hes doing!) and the Cards will be coming back at a 10 reduced price.

Better luck elsewhere in the US.

This probably isn't the coolest thing I do with my Clie, but it sure is fun.

Ever get sick of all the TVs or radios in a department store with the volume up full blast while you're trying to concentrate on something else?

Clie Remote Control to the rescue. I love muting those things all the time. The workers in the stores have no idea what happened. :-)

I store images for viewing

Occasionally use the camera to record something bizarre (pig drinking cappuccino, anyone?)

I play games (some of the enhanced 5.0 games rock!)

And just yesterday, I got a WLAN card and began surfing via T-Mobile Hot Spots at Starbuck's

Wow, I could not believe the stories about using the remote to control the TV's in bar, etc.

Every remote I have ever had took a good chunk of time and a lengthy instruction booklet to program. So I discounted this one in the Clie, even was unhappy when I could not delete it because I need every bit of memory.

But after reading the items on this thread about controling TV's in public places, I tried it on our home computers and was able to instantly control 3 of 4 of our TV's, all older models.

What power! Now in our favorite dive, I can turn up or down the sound, change channels. I am really jazzed, bless Sony.

Sony is close to becoming a God in my mind.

To add the freeware icons into your personal collection, I recommend you use Icon Manager (http://www.palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?prodID=47054) to copy all the icons into your collection.
You can find a freeware version of Icon Manager included in all the M3 series iconset (http://www.palmgear.com/software/answer.cfm?sid=727FAC84-92FB-488B-9EC9C17727CFDD87&userIDsel=1000112898&searchtitle=Applications%20by%20Peter%20Ong) . I use tomerader and their movie database (from imdb.com) a lot...

Also get movie times (was using showtimes but now get them through a channel from avantgo), and tv guide (pocket tv browser + tv grid listing) , and weather (worldmate).

I like to record stuff, but don't like lugging a camcorder around; so a b-day at a bar or stripclub is perfect for the clie.

I also have a million login's and passwords that I would never be able to remember without SplashID; additional the program Open remember the hours of stores and tells me how much longer they're open (or until they open). I shop and eat out a lot so Open helps out a lot; also vindigo I'm still deciding on. Seems to be more of a pain than functional though (except to see whose playing in town over the next few weeks and where); but if you can use it you can get directions, restaurant reviews, event listings, etc.

PocketBar is always a favorite at parties (and helps too!), and everyone gets a laugh out of PalmSutra. I

don't do the email thing from my palm, but a lot of times I will have important messages/notes/numbers that I receive in e-mail so I use iambic mail just so I can always see an email if I need to.

Latly though I havn't been using it that often, it's getting kind of a pain to carry around all the time (since the weather is nice I don't wear my jacket as much).. I also hate busting it out in public, but I still like it a lot, just not using it as much =(

I love using my NX to preview pictures and movies I have taken with my Sony F707. I just swap the memory stick from the camera to my NX and everything shows up. Once I get my 512 mb Sandisk CF card and the driver, I think I should be able to use it to transfer the pic's and movies from the memory stick to the CF card. Think this will be great for when I am on holidays as I won't need to take my notebook along to unload the files to.

I live in a very RURAL part of Pennsylvania, USA; so not too many people have seen very many PDA's, let alone a NX70! I eat lunch with kids a school every week (I'm a Kids Pastor) and they love gettign their picture taken. It amazes the teachers when I pull up and Accuweather map of our area, or if I put an orange mustache on their picture using the Photo Editor. Or if I show someone a movie that I took and converted to my Clie. Or if I show them where they live using Mapopolis or Handmap. Wherever I go, it turns a lot of heads. And that's not even counting the over 700 names and addresses, or my datebook, or using MyBible, or using a word processor on it.

You have to check your email. You'll get two emails, the first being a confirmation email with your order number, and the second to tell you that you've been entered into the database. Go to the link that is given in the second email and enter your order number. You'll then be taken to a screen where you can add up to three separate device ID's to get keys. What you do is enter the device ID that is in the TableTennis app. You enter the device ID, and you'll get a 1 KB download that you install which gives you the full version of TableTennis3D. Then, if you ever upgrade, you just enter the device ID of that Palm into the key generator on the web page and you'll have the full version on that Palm.

I don't have a Clie (but I do admire them in Future SHop/Best Buy). I'll tell you the best use for any PDa that I know of.

Being 12.5 years old (shh...don't tell the mods), I have to prove that I am a geek. An encyclopedic knowledge of PDAs isn't always enough. That's why I whip out my IIIe as my Geek Pass Device. However, once it backfired. After I had gathered a small crowd, I showed the IIIe. They were silently disgusted at my ownership of such an old PDA. I lost a few geek points there.

The second good use is WinHand. It drains the AAAs like crazy, but it is so cool. It would be much better on an NX though ([drools] WiFi, 320x480 screen, rechargable battery)

Thanks chummy! Unfortunatly I can't use avantgo because my parents set my account on "mature teen" meaning no external programs can access the internet. I tried taking the proxy settings in AIM(which does work) and using that port  to connect with avantgo, but it didn't let it though. I might be getting cable soon though, so if I do, I wiill be able to use avantgo(I have my own firewall, so maybe I can convince my parents to leave my precious ISP alone...).

ikes, a netnanny, that sucks. Well not to go against mom & dad, but you could 1) get a shell 2) put a key logger on ur computer to capture their password and go change it.

Haha, I love the advice. What's a shell? Is that something that uses one connection but lets other programs use it? Sounds like fun, maybe I'll try it... As for the logger, well, I have one that would do the job perfectly, but if I actually go on their account and mess around with the controls, my mom would find out, and make it even worse(young teen, AAAUUUGGGHHHH!). My main issue is kazaa. I miss it....

Actually, I just got a laptop(was going to be delivered this morning, but I didn't hear them knock): 1800+ athlon, 30gb, 256 ddr, 15" tft, dvd+cdrw=drooling. My mom didn't ban my internet cause I was doing anything bad, just because it automatically blocks that stuff out. I don't mind that to much(besides, if I cared, there are a million ways around it) it's just that now aol acts like an out of control firewall blocking ANYTHING that tries to use the connection besides aim. It even blocks out windows update, so I can't fix an IE issue that's been getting on my nerves because I can't download any updates. Praying for cable...

By the way, what is a "shell"? You have me really interested now...

I didn't do this myself, but thought it was pretty cool. A guy I know brought his NX to the opening of Matrix Reloaded, and taped the whole thing (about 2.2 128M memory sticks). The quality was actually pretty good for a small screen. He did it strictly for personal use, so I really don't see anything wrong with it.

I have an NZ90, and it is perfect for taking a picture of a whole A4 page of text. I can read text down to 9pt I would assume, as 12pt is no big deal.. Don't know if the NX80 does this though :/

Thanks, I believe the NZ camera is better than the NX80 will be, but it's good to know. Does it have a special macro setting? I'm assuming that the NX will not, but it might be a nice feature for them to include someday. It sounds like if the NX80 performs somewhere between the NX70 and NZ it will be more than enough for my purposes, at least camera-wise.

I am A teacher who suffers from vocal strain constantly, I use my NX in the voice record mode to bradcast through a sound feeder (F.M. wireless adapter) to play my voice through the stereo surround sound in my classroom for lectures. It is amazing! The mike picks up a whisper from 20 feet away and allows me to talk at a really comfortable level and all my 30 art students can hear perfectly. Since it is playing and recording at the same time I do have to make sure none of the speakers are close enough to cause feedback. Francis

Is it a combo TV/VCR? I "helped" one teacher who couldn't coordinate his lecture and the movie. I had tried all the TV settings before and decided to get creative with Panasonic VCRs. He thought someone had the remote and gave us a small sub-lecture on stealing school property. Every one within a 5 kid radius knew what was going on and no one snitched, which is impressive for a small Christian school. He found the remote on top of the TV, so no damage done, despite the exceedingly satisfying look of bewilderment written all over his face. I think I'll let him in on what happened. . . in a couple years.

Well, this isn't exactly high on the "wow" factor, but it has changed my life...

I am a teacher and get TONS of single sheet documents from school administrators, such as schedule updates, check lists, contact lists, procedure outlines, etc. etc. every month. Now, I use my NX 80 to take a snapshot of each piece of paper, re-name the files using the file manager, and voila: I have a portable file cabinet of all administrative memos, etc. and can recycle all the originals without a second thought. Amazing!

The NX 80 camera has way more than enough resolution to clearly read all text on an 8.5 x 11 page (even smaller fonts).

Oh yeah... and I installed "Fun Cam" = just a matter of time before I find something cool to do with this one!

If your video is a .mov, then you need to rename it to something like MOV00001.MQV - note the capital letters! The number part can be pretty much anything as far as I know.
Then put the MOV00001.MQV into the /MQ_ROOT/100MQV01 folder on your memstick. You should then see it when you open movie player.
