this is a dumb question, but the ux manual says when you hard reset, the ux will ask you if you want to restore to a certain backup on internal media.
my question is: what program are we supposed to be using (must be a stock program) to create a backup to internal media... surely not copying everything through clie files!

I don't quite follow you. The UX50 has seperate internal memory, its only function is to backup files--that's diff than the handheld & internal RAM. All you have to do is goto "pref" then "powersaving" then do a back up (this will turn off your UX), or from "powersaving", press "ctrl + R" to backup your files.

thanks; that's exactly what i needed. :) i haven't used "powersaving" before and searchwords like "backup to internal media" did not pull the right things up for me.
i think of backups as file management so that's why i was thinking clie files and prefs didn't even occur to me...

Glad to help :) I backup my files fairly regulary on my UX, because I have been trying lots of apps that makes my UX go nuts, sometimes :D I rarely hotsync--just transfer it from my card to the handheld/internal memory. So, backing up is kinda must for me.
