View Full Version : Infinite soft reset of doom

Within the last month or so I was reading a thread by someone who experienced their first ISROD (see subject, I have decided to pronounce this ice-rod.  Because the feeling I have when this happens is just like someone shoved an icy rod into my spine!).  And I mentioned having this happen on all 3 of my devices I have owned: Palm III, Clie PEG-N710, Clie PEG-N760 [upgraded 710] as well as my new NX70V.  Well, just as I was readying myself for the days errands I went to check my CLIE.  Hit the memo key...and nothing.  Checked the hold.  It was off.  Hit the power button, nothing.  It was conected to the charger and the charge light was on.  Strange.  So I hit the soft reset button, at which time it went into the ISROD.

Today I did only one thing between the time I turned it off last night and the time I turned it on this morning.  I pulled the WL100 card out of the CLIE while powered off.  This does not seem like something that would cause a catastrophic event such as the ISROD.

So, the question remains.  Why does this happen?  My guess is that it must be a flaw in PalmOS that dates back at least as far as PalmOS 3.

Does anyone else remember running into this problem on other PalmOS versions or devices?

Any comments are welcome!

Not me. My N760C has been very nice to me for the last 18 months (knock on wood). Sorry for what happened to you and for not being able to offer any help.

I have the NZ90 and have pulled the wifi card out with the unit on and of course off and nothing bad has happened... in fact I have never had to do a hard and dirty reset on this unit... I have done it buy by my choice.. so what else could have made that happen... what about an auto sync or is there anyone else in the house that may have been touching it. My NX unit did not like the power to the cradle being turned on or of if it was seated there. But the NZ seems not to care...

If you get caught in a reset loop, try resetting while holding the up button/toggle. This is the Palm equivalent of "Safe" mode (only the basic ROM code boots, no software).

This won't really fix the problem, but it will let you back up any data that you need to save.
