Is there any application that will enable me to delete a locked database? Specifically, I was trying out SnapperMail and deleted the app. But now I have 3 SnapperMailExchange files that will not delete. I've tried McFile, JackFlash, Clie Files, Filez, and PowerRun and none of them will allow me to delete these files. Any help would be appreciated.

How did you delete the app. The other associated files should have been deleted if you used the Clie delete option. If you deleted the app by just deleting it in one of the file managers you mentioned and not the conventional way maybe you could reinstall the app and delete it via the Clie delete app option.
Just a thought.

Good idea. I'll try it. I had installed it on the memory stick so I just deleted it my typical way. We'll see.

If the files are on memory card delete them using MSImport.

Okay, here's the game plan:
Ok, very simple, you have to delete the application before it's loaded into the operating system. Once it's loaded, the operating system protects itself from crashing by locking the application.
By using the warm reset, it allows you to prevent the application from loading into the operating system. This way, it can be deleted without crashing the Clie.
You can do a warm reset, which is done by holding the page Up button while pushing in the reset button on the backside of the Clie with the pin from inside your stylus. This won't load anything so there will be no Virtual Graffiti area either. Hit Ctrl-H on the keyboard, go to the Clie Files(file manager), then you can delete the desired application. Afterwards, you then need to do a regular reset by using the little pin from inside your stylus to push the reset button in the backside of your Clie.
I hope that helps, it's worked for me :)!

n2ifp- you are the man!!!! that worked like a charm.
i can't believe i didn't think of that after telling my gf to do that earlier today after her palm died on her from installing a stupid app. it worked for her and now it works for me.
thanks again. man, i love you guys!
Well I tried it also with filez or ZLauncher's File Manager to uncheck the "Read Only" Attribute. Problem is: sometimes I have installed some apps on the MS and they won't be deleted although I get a deletion confirmation. The Only help for me: Deleting via MSExport/Import. Any suggestions on this? BTW I reset and leave the MS out.. So it won't load into RAM.

You should NOT have locked files on the MS. There is read only and copy protect. They are two separate items. Never had a problem deleting files on the MS. You should NOT have any files loading from the MS into RAM after a reset.
To delete any apps, they must be moved back to RAM first! Then deleted from the Sony Launcher's drop down menu and selecting delete.
Why do you have to move them back to RAM?

So the app and it's associated files get deleted, otherwise there are left over crumbs. For some, a file manager is dangerous :D!

Wouldn't associate files have the same Creator ID?

Normally yes, but if the app and it's db's aren't in RAM, then the delete isn't going to find them.

Figured it wouldn't be that hard to find them on the MS.
Okay, set as if I found all of the files on the MS (indeed I did!) but could not delete it after moving it to RAM for having some error messages from the CLie/Palm-Launcher. What to do? I move them to the RAM but they are now on both: the MS and Internal. They are just locked. I uncheck all of the marks- no use. It won't let me!

What files can't you delete and what are the apps?
They were TikTak. These are trial files. After a certain usage statistic(I think 20 times) you need to register. So I copied them to MS in two directories one custom called "Custom" and the other in the Launcher folder. If the trial expires I only delete the file and copy the other into "Launcher". Tricky, eh??
The thing is I then wanted to completely get rid of the app, and it wasn't possible. No att change and no third party file mover could help- but the MSImport which helped me out by deleting the file via PC.
How come?
greetz n2ifp Are you on shortwave?

Im trying to delete netfront prefrence file b/c im getting a fatal error saying " data mgr. c, invalid id" . only thing is the file is a read only database. how can i delete it or should i delete it help me!!!!! sony support said that the file was pre-installed on the clie before i got it and that is why when i delete netfront it should stay on the handheld ! should i believe this?
I've searched my Clié. Couldn't find your NetFront prefs file. I never installed Netfront! If you have no use for Netfront delete it. You will need a file Manager like ZLaunchers, Filez or similar. ClieFiles won't work. Select the file and uncheck the box with "read only". Save the file. Then delete it via the fm.
hope this helps..

If the file is locked by the OS, you can't delete it!!!
You have to change the file type first and then do a soft reset so the OS does not load it.
You can have at least three different file situations! There are locked files, read only, and the copy protected ones.
