If you all recall, in 2002 Sony had invested about $20 million bucks into PalmSource which at the time gave it about 6% of the outstanding stock:

I was wondering if anyone knew if Sony still held that stock in the new Access/Palmsource group? And if so, I would be intrigued to theorize why Sony would still be holding onto the stock? Perhaps to see what results from ALP and maybe even consider revisiting the PalmOS/ALP in the future? Probably not, but it would be a good theory! ;) :p

The PalmSource-Access deal was a cash buy-out, not a stock swap. All share holders of PSRC would have received cash, and PSRC became a wholly owned subsidiary of Access. If Sony did still had shared in PSRC at the time, they no longer have in Access. They probably also suffered a loss.

Shareholders of PalmSource received cash, per terms of the sale to Access. If Access is a publicly held company, their shares are likely traded on the Nikkei.

That is what I thought. Does anyone know what Palm-Source originally opened at and what it closed at on the final days of trading? :)

That investment was made under a different CEO though. If they were to come back, it would be after the "cleanup" thats going on. I hope this CEO doesn't just cleanup but also restarts stoped projects like this one. For the most part. I think that the CLIE line has extended into the Playstation market for now during the clean up and hope that innovations from the PSP line are brought to the CLIE such as the LARGE screens, USB hosts and hope that the processors are DOCUMENTED!!! But its interesting to think that they invest so much and stop. I hope your theory is right.
I seriously think Sony has always wanted a gaming handheld, the CLIE gear controllers is a perfect example. The last CLIEs were not meant to use the controller due to the slower processor although I think the TH55 could but not sure.

I think Sony-Ericsson uses NetFront already.
