Im wondering if someone could help me decide on either of these, they are both good but i like games and multimedia and the ability to get 3rd party stuff rather than just SONYs.
Well here are the specs:
Model: SJ-33----------------------Axim X5
Processor: 66mhz Dragonball-----400mhz Xscale
Screen Res: 320x320-----------------320x240
Input: Grafiti---------------------Onscreen and mic
Storage : 128mb---------------------3gb (pretec CF)
Max
Price: £200------------------------£267

This is apples and oranges question. Comparing spec to spec is rather fruitless. the PPC is way more powerful than the SJ33.
You have to really decide on useability. Based on YOUR preferences.

A friend at work has the Dell Axim X5, and it is very cool !!!
And a fantastic value. In US dollars ... it only costs $299, which includes the USB cradle, 400mhz processor, 64 meg ram. It also has slots to accept both SD and Smart Memory type cards.
The Dell display is beautiful. And it does work great with Windows, and Windows based apps like Word and Excel.
My friend was playing Pocket PC Quake on it. It was not a super-smooth playing game, but still looked pretty decent, considering it was on a hand-held.
Only thing that keeps me liking my Sony S360, and not rushing out to buy the Dell Axim, is I found a lot of great Freeware for the Palm OS. I am not sure if the Pocket PC has the same following of loyal users writting great free Apps, like you have with Palm.
My friend also mentioned that eventually Dell will include built-in WiFi ... so it may pay to wait a little. Dell just got into this market, and they hit a home-run with their first PDA. So they will likely have even better PDAs down the road.
My S360 is also smaller and lighter than the Dell ... although the Dell is not by any means too large.
It's a tough choice between a good Palm OS PDA, and Pocket PC PDA. I think I will keep the Sony Clie S360 for at least a few more months before I decide what to buy next. I only spent $69 on my S360, and another $5 on a small Targus thumbpad keyboard, so I got a great deal. It was a floor model at Best Buy (in USA).
I want to experiment with Palm OS software on my S360 for a while before deciding to switch to a more expensive color Palm or Pocket PC.
Right now, I have a nice small great looking greyscale PDA with a backlight, which has 16mb, and can download news from AvantGo and Plucker (internet services), can run tons of great apps (personal inventory, memos, write docs, free-hand notes, date-book, guitar stuff, read e-books, calculators, conversion tools, games, and the list goes on and on). So I'm in no rush.
It also uses the Sony style memory sticks, so I can add another 128mb for around $50.
:) :) :)

Some of the Axims are shipping with the PXA255 now.

(A lot of) PPC games look great but aren't so fun to play.
Also, thinks like your address book etc will run faster on the Palm than on the PPC.

Well, it really depends on your needs and if it's for work or personal needs. For me I'm looking at the low end Axim so I can easily synchronize my calendar at work. To use my Clie I'd have to setup at each computer (I don't have a static seat), and it's easier to do with a PPC.

I think Axims are UGLY. They're so bulky.
That's just my opinion.

For reference, the AXIM is slightly wider then a NR or NX because of it's rubber grip, but shorter.
I like the colors, but it's made out of plastic so it kind of cheap compared to my NR. But the rubber grips give it a nice solid feel when it's in my hand. For the price it was an excellent buy.

I'll take my 320x480 screen, but then again I can't play a NES emulator on the Clie'.

If you got a PPC so that you can do things like play NES games, you are a very sad person.
You can get a GBA + flashable cartridge (with an NES emulator on it) for around $150.

Is that an insult, or are you patronizing all PPC users. A GBA is only for games. <PERIOD> For a few bucks more one could purchase a PPC and run applications that have not yet been created for the Clie'. But, because this is a Clie' site some people find offense to others looking to buy a PPC. I find these individuals to be very sad. I bought my Clie' for showing my static portfolio, taking notes and playing GB games, I guess the GB part would make me very sad from your viewpoint.

Thats not really true. Thats the same as saying one car with an 8 cylinder engine is better than another car with a 6. There are always other factors to consider.
What it really comes down to is a matter of prference i think. Both the Palm and the Windows platforms have thier strengths and weaknesses. I have always hoped for some of the games that the PPC has to appear on the Palm. (thats going to change in the next 6 months, esp. in the emulator department)
