My input-area skin loader and manager for the T3, T5, TX and LD has been updated. This update includes the ability to set the color of the input-area keyboard (Palm-style only, not hex) and faster resident code on the T5, TX and LD (ARM code instead of 68K code).

FYI - after installing 2.05, I've lost my "recent items" tap-n-hold. I've verified by installing previous version, upon which the correct functionality was restored.

Other than that, awesome application.

Is this a T|X only problem (caused by some sort of "hacking" of the statusbar to get back the Home icon)? (Just wondering since you linked to a thread in the T|X forum.)

I believe this is a TX-only problem. But I have no way of testing. Perhaps those with a T5 or T3 can give it a try to verify on those devices.

I linked to that topic as it seemed to me it was a TX related issue and I posted there first and didn't want to repeat posts.

Just an update - version 2.08 just posted addresses this issue. I tested it and verified all is now working right.

Alex,

Is there any way to incorporate the graffiti tweaks from ClieSkinner into mySkin? I hate how slow the DIA comes up and down compared to the VG on my UX. Even the ink size from ClieSkinner is great...any way to get it into mySkin?

2.08 has the keyboard color functions and some bug fixes (maybe).

Alex,

can a specific font be assigned to the keyboard (or indeed the hex k'board in mykbd) or does it default to font active for the current app? Sorry if this is a RTFM but I couldnt find it...

It's the current font.

In myKbd, however, you can use the layout generator to assign any Windows font.

I cannot get version 2.08 (downloaded from PalmGear) to install over 2.06. Here is the error from my hotsync log:

- Already exists: C:\Program Files\palmOne\WinterJ\Install\mySkin_install.prc
Install synchronization failed

Any suggestions on how to proceed short of un-installing?

The beta I have (2.05c) had the keyboard color functions too, right?

I'll still dload the newest one, this has been my only purchased software, and I think the best investment for my palm.

Any chance you have MySkin locked with an application like RLock (Rescoe Locker)?

Hmmmmm. I did install RLock (mostly to be able to examine the dynamic heap and DBCache numbers) but did not lock anything. I un-installed and re-installed. Working fine now.

Had the same thing happen with myKbd 1.00 and 1.03 and uninstalling v1 prior to hotsyncing remedied the issue.

In 2.05 I experimented with protecting mySkin against the mysterious Disappearing mySkin Syndrome (DmSS), where after a soft reset, even one unrelated to mySkin (e.g., a Blazer crash), occasionally mySkin would be gone from memory. The problem seems to happen only on NVFS devices, and some people get it more often than others. I had it happen once or twice, but have not been able to duplicate it consistently. I was hoping that protecting mySkin would solve the DmSS, but it doesn't.

mySkin 2.05 unprotects itself when mySkin receives a delete notification, but it turns out hotsync doesn't send these. As of 2.08, I remembered the protection mechanism as it doesn't seem to have helped.

My current recommended work-around for the DmSS is to copy mySkin / myKbd to a card, and then copy it back when it disappears. In the meanwhile, I am working towards a full solution, but since I can't consistently reproduce the problem, I can't be sure I've got it. I have, however, managed to duplicate a similar problem under artificial circumstances (introducing a deliberate reset into one part of my code), and then I have found a solution for it. I do not know if this solution solves the fullblown DmSS, but if you want to try it out, it's there in myKbd 1.03b:
