So after many years of using palm os I have been finally thinking really upgrading my from palm os to windows mobile. Main reason why I'm even swithing is that I really want device where are all stuff what I need. Another reason is that I have even before thinking about buying a ppc and I would just want use more some softwares which palm os hasn't like Voip, netfront 3.2 and many cool looking games which I have been looking into lately. For question why windows mobile? For that anwser is that I don't like symbian os series at all and don't keep Linux so great either. Palm os is great but then comes Windows mobile which has just better stuff what to install to it. It has also this one software which emulator palm os softwares and that is a huge plus.;)
Anyway the biggests things that I'm worried are the technical quality of windows mobile smartphones, battery life and web browsing. Because it just seems that th55's technical quality is very good (screen don't make any noice, has sony handheld engine and etc.) so if I'm going to get new device I don't want any crap which break to my hands with unlimited erros like with palm latests models. And about the battery life, thing is that many ppc phones run on +312mhz processor so I afraid that I'm going to miss my th55's battery life. And for web browsing th55 has been very good in my opinion but I have been reading that Windows mobile can't do the same so well as th55.:(
It is only just that what I'm searhing is just quite much under rock. Becose I would want gadget with windows mobile, phone cababilities, good battery life, Keyboard for fast writing and specially with high quality. I don't also keep VGA or even HVGA as so "must get" thing. Also I have read that Windows mobile can't handle documents so well so this isn't also problem becose I don't edit or view them so much anyway, almost never.
So any tips or hints or something? Or maybe recommend which windows mobile phone to get?
Edit: I have been thinking to upgrade HTC universal, Circular 8125 or same kind of device so what you think about those?

SO MUCH TO READ!!!! ;)
Whatever suits you best. I would suggest going to the store and test out a couple Windows Mobile devices first ;)

Well I have tested some Windows mobile devices in a store but I don't remember which models. However even once actually me and sister's husband kept some fun time installing all kind of stuff to on Ipaq many years ago (they had Ipaqs in their work because they program maps to symbian os and ppc and etc. so he did borrow one of them)
Anyway it is even little funny why I didn't first place buy any of those becose in the very end something in the th55/palm os did got just my attention ;) But I can't say either that those Ipaqs in a store didn't get my attention. I remember best that they had very good and bright screens and in this case when we tested Ipaq with my sister's husband I remember that test games in the Ipaq was very nice all that high quality sound. Well, at least I'm gonna admit that we are lacking very much on high quality 3d games on palm os platform :(
But don't get me wrong because I'm not saying that Palm os is poor. It is just that Windows mobile steals all programmers becose it is easier to program to it and port stuff. I don't care windows mobile's multitasking or stuff like that. It is just that even most of them Europe maps are for Windows mobile. As sad it is even my sister's husband's workplace don't program any maps for palm os!
But - peace - everyone ;)

Unfortunately, this isn't something that we can easily advise on :(
I have to say that hardware-wise, every PPC will be better than a TH55.
This is the main selling point of PPCs - Their hardware is just ridiculously over-kill.
The pain is Windows Mobile; Try and find an opportunity to play about with it for an hour or two to see if you can put up with it.
<rambling>
I swapped my TH55 for a LOOX for a day about a week or two ago, and was quite impressed.
I played around with it for a while, poked around some WM forums to see what mods you can get for PPC's etc. (The problem with changing platforms is that you don't know all the cool tricks that you know for PalmOS ;)).
In the end, I liked the hardware (e.g. IT HAS AN ANTENNA PORT!!!!! DECENT WIFI RANGE!!!) but just couldn't put up with the operating system (The WiFi manager is utter shite, for instance. And I thought the TH55's one was crap!!).
I also missed the battery life of my TH55 (Despite being two years old vs my friend's brand new LOOX 520, it still had longer battery life! Although he almost managed to drain it once by using WiFi too much... He was saved because of the battery indicator on the bottom status bar and - Something the LOOX doesn't have ;))
One thing I did like about Windows Mobile is it has Graffiti 1! :D
It's not exactly the same as PalmOS G1 - Some 'alternative'/'undocumented' strokes don't work too well (Inverse-Alpha for 'Y' for instance), but it's a lot nicer than G2.
The free-form handwriting recogniser is pretty good too - Certainly better than Decuma!
Palm should have taken licenced and used Sony's Silk-Plugin system to bring this stuff to PalmOS IMHO - Not only is G2 rubbish and worse than G1, it's the only thing you can use! And third parties have to HACK the OS to implement alternatives! C'mon Palm! Learn from the good points of your competitors, not the bad points!!!

What I hear most from PPC users is ActiveSync is terrible and all-to-frequent resets. Battery life is #1 concern for me, and PPCs fair poorly in this area, although they are improving. I just don't want to go back to the environment of my former T665c where it was almost a laptop experience in regards to battery drain! What good is a PDA if you have to worry about it getting you through the day?

Yeah, you have a point there. Battery life is very importand for me too. That is why I don't ever buy any of those 625mhz ppc lol =D it is just who REALLY need so fast processor??? But about activesync... it don't much matter to me becose I don't use hotsync anyway or palm desktop. Only data import. Btw, does windows mobile 5.0 have data import kind of software build in? or underclocker?

I guess the webbrowsing experience should be quite good if you did get NetFront 3.2. But I'm quite sure that I haven't heard anyone say Mobile IE is good.
And, you've got to get used to that start menu. It's a lot worse then on your desktop, which in my opinion is bad enough.

I dunno. I've been using Palm as my OS for about 6 years. I've a few questions before I vote. I download new apps all the time to test. Those that do what I need and don't crash all the time, I keep. Some of these are freeware, some are not. There are great things about some of these.
I play solitaire, keep track of my time, use the calendar, notes, tasks, contacts, read the bible and other books, play other games, read email, track my diabetes, keep track of shopping lists, other data, have alarms for meds and birthdays, check IR remotes, use the clie as a remote, draw simple pics, play music, use the scientific calc, can dowload/upload files via wifi... all with my clie'
My questions are
1. are there free apps for PPCs that are useful?
2. What are they and where do I find them?
3. Are there apps built in, other then the "big 4" that do anything above?
4. can PPC play WMVs?
5. Are there pay apps to do any of these?
6. are there any real comparison threads that avoid the typical " I have a PPC or POS so it's the best" junk.
Thanks.
