Today, I noticed my friend had a new phone on her waist. She knowing I'm a techie, she showed me it. It was what I thought it was... the Sprint PCS Vision Smart Device PPC-6700. As soon as she gave it to me, I was amazed. The small size and comfortable keyboard blew me away. The device's feel was nice and smooth as well. The device has a smaller res and smaller screen than the UX but it looked much more crisp. The camera app takes up the whole screen which I liked compared to the small little camera view on the UX. I didn't have my camera with me but I did have my UX's built-in camera. So I took two pictures of it. I noticed the device was laggy but I checked the Running Programs and noticed she had more than 10 apps running in the background. I felt as I held the device the need to move to WM. Being able to control the apps running in the background is something that I can deal with. My friend might not but I can. I may wait for a PPC device with a larger screen or just get one of the slider devices available. It depends. But I really do feel the urge to try out WM. I mean my friend says she loves hers and she has EVDO running on it.

She did pay a lot for it though. When one of her friends asked why she didn't get a Treo, she said specifically that the keys were too small and that she couldn't type on it. So anyone listening to this, I am not the only one that hates the keyboard. There are others.

The PPC-6700 keyboard was amazing but one bad thing about it is that the space bar is cut short for the OK button so I pressed the OK button a few times while typing. It was really annoying. If I got that device and was able to map the OK key for Space function and use the OK key on the face of the device for closing apps, I'd be fine with that.

ROFLMAO at pgenie ;)
I should have looked at one of those. Someday, when I have had my phone for a long time, I might get a Windows Smart-phone :( ;)

The screen is smaller than the UX screen which surprised me. For the device size though, it felt comfortable.

The overall design of it, though, it's like a brick! There's various software bugs and everything with it, too, so it's not really something for a PPC novice to want to use very much. Compared to the Treo, it's supposed to suck as far as one-handed usage goes.

It is faster having EVDO built-in. Its faster having a 416Mhz processor. Its much more usable from a keyboard-standpoint. Its just an amazing device.

BTw, what do you mean by brick???

I guess the Treo is a brick as well seeing as the 6700 is just .03" thicker than the Treo 650 and 700w.

Very nice, If only I could stand Windows mobile OS, I would be happy to own one. :)

Can this thing be efficienly operated with one hand like the Treo 650?

Its not meant for one-handed use, hence the large keyboard. Its meant for one-handed use when closed and two-handed when open. Something I like a lot. When I tried typing on the Treo one handed, I thought it was gonna fall out my hand.

@DG, not sure, I'm considering it. Probably when the price drops. I'm really excited about it though. More so than the Palm PDAs out now. It also has a joystick which can probably be used for gaming really nicely :) I'm going to try it out more when I see my friend again.

No, I'm not talking about the actual width. The Treo is a rather thick device, but it doesn't feel very thick in your hand because of the curves. The 6700 is built like a smooth rounded rectangle, it feels much bigger to me.

Want to know a brick? Get a VZ90 or NZ90. :p

I've never played with a VZ90, but the NZ90 is a cinder block!

I hate WM2003(SE), but like WM5 a lot. I'm selling my LifeDrive now to buy the Cingular 8125 from Cingular. I love its squarish design, and the screens on these things do look small (especially when I had put the display model up to my LifeDrive) but it just seems to fit (for a phone). I love the keyboard, and am really interested to have WM5. Palm OS is a little boring after 1.4 years, and I want to try something new. The WM5 and Mac issues ought to be some fun, but it shall work out ok. And if Palm is still out at end of contract, maybe I'll go back to it. :)

Dont know what the 6700's price is @ Sprint, but the 8125 is $300/$350 @ Cingular and really isnt too bad compared to LD…(With 2yr contract)

You like that ugly thing? Bleh! Where's that vomit emoticon? ;)
I like the looks of the T-Mobile SDA, but my Sprint plan can't be beat. It's 500 minutes, unlimited nights, weekends, data, picture and video messaging, mobile to mobile, and free roaming for $30 a month! I'd desperately like to go with a GSM carrier, but I can't justify paying at least $20 more every month.

Sprint has cheaper plans, but only have the Treo in my area. I like the 8125, and can't wait to get it ;)

It's an incredible change when you're talking about smartphones. WM5 is actually a nice smartphone OS.

I think my next PDA is going to be the Cingular 8125. I originally wanted a UX50, but this one basically combines the phone with it, plus better access to messaging and email. And better battery life...

The only problem is getting a good outliner or notetaker that will synchronize with a Mac (and I don't use MS Entourage).
