After last week's super-sized show, I keep this one short. We talk about the upcoming Palm stock split and what it might mean. ACCESS annouces NetFront 3.4 and ACCESS Linux Platform (ALP). And, BlackBerry Connect for Palm OS is spotted at 3GSM World. [details (http://www.1src.com/?m=show&id=1439)]

Don't mean to be critical but it is now 2006 ;)

Congrats on the PowerBook G4; I have one myself along with an iMac G5. I recently purchased iLife 06-- sweet program(s).

Regarding the NetFront browser, the Tungsten|C came with NetFront. It is called "Web Browser v.2.0.1.1" but the core browser technology is provided by Access. So I believe it is similar to Blazer in that regard. I am not sure what WebPro is powered on though.

Oh, and one more thing. I remember when Palm stock was $.75 a share, it was right before OS5 was released with the original Tungsten. I told my wife we should buy some... of course, she said "no". I casually remender of this every once in a while since the stock has be steadily rising since.

Netfront is the ultimate browser. The new features that they have in their newer versions are amazing and hopefully it will be in future Palm devices or LG devices.

So, are you psyched about the ACCESS Linux Platform announcement? NetFront will be part of that build.[QUOTE]

Apparently Web Pro was developed by Palm in partnership with Novarra. It is proxy based and routes traffic through a server that palm maintains.

That would explain the cool coffee mug I got from Novarra when I attended a Palm mobile technology web conference.

Alan, you will love iLife '06 to make podcasts on. In garageband they make it so easy to do. Congrats on the Mac.

Alan:

thanks for a good podcast. I am using the Palm TX and generally find it a good update from my T3, but I really question your statements about Garnet. I bought my TX for Christmas and have yet to have a crash free week. Here are some of my unexplained crashes:

1. CardTXT v .50a will crash for no apparent reason and then work fine for several days and even weeks...

2. QuickTour will always crash, run fine after a soft reset for a short period and then crash again...

3. Hotsync will work fine for a while and then I will have to restart my windows xp prof PC...

4. sometimes when i plug the machine into the usb port, my computer will say that it odes not recognize the device...this happens on more than 1 computer...

5. There are a few other programs that will crash for no apparent reason and then work fine...

6. sometimes half the screen will disappear and I will have to change to the Favorites view to restore it...what's that about?

I never had these problems on my T3. I am not running any hacks..It is plainly not a stable device!

I could go back to the T3, but I really like wi-fi and the no-slider big screen...

bquin, Have you reviewed the software compatibility lists at palmfacts.com and palmfocus.com? Did you precisely follow Palm's upgrade instructions, which include renaming your Backup folder, to prevent installation of like-named T3 system files, preferences and third party apps? Might appsliprotate be installed (strictly a T3 file)?

Good cast Alan, congrats on the Mac.

thanks for your suggestions. I have followed everything you said and appsliprotate is not in ram. I take it you have not had similar problems with your TX?

If so, it must be something on my system, but I can't figure out what!

I've had no problems with system stability, followed the upgrade directions, been using since mid-October. Only issues I have encountered have usually had to do with other people's servers. What have you installed? Do you have any TSR apps or hacks?

no hacks or tsrs.

sometimes when I run blazer it locks up and I have to soft reset. Do you ahve this problem?

could these problems be related to the dbcache? they all go away after a soft reset...

Bill -

CardTXT is still in beta, so I'm discounting it. The other stuff shouldn't be happening. Did you try to ditch CardTXT for a few days to see if everything works? It was a bit buggy on my T5.
