Well, my move to the "dark side" started last July with a purchase of a Dell Axim X50v. Throughout this time, I moved back and forth between my UX50 and the X50v. Recently I upgraded to an Axim X51v. I basicly sold the X50v and purchased the X51v for the same price. I was about to give up and move back to the UX50/Palm when Dell released the latest ROM update. With some fixes, tweaks and many hours spent in forums, I finally feel I have a PDA that replaces and surpasses the UX50. I would not have thought this possible a year ago.

I have now grown accustomed to WM5. Recently I added a Bluetooth mouse and have slowly purchased replacements for my favorite Palm software. I don't know how I did without dual slot storage. Yes, I miss the UX50 keyboard but I use an app called Full Screen Keyboard and it almost replaces the UX50 keyboard, except for hotkeys and Keyquick. Did I mention the incredible VGA? Wow!

Anyways, I have enjoyed the ride and appreciate the help and discussions throughout my time on this website. I will still visit occasionally. I am still going to keep one of my UX50s in storage. I have decided to sell the rest of my UX50s and associated accessories to help support my gadget addiction.

Thanks again 1src and friends.

As long as you are happy, I am happy :) I was going to get a Dell Axim but decided not to and feel happy that I didn't sell my UX. I think I've finally got the battery configurations right. You will be missed.

Glassman, could you list the programs you used to help with the migration. I'm not planning on switching but I always liked to stay informed. I've used PPC for a total of a month and that was over a year ago. I would like to know what specifically you are using and what things are different. Thanks Glassman and enjoy. Glad your happy with your new device. :)

There's still a few apps I am trialing, that I didn't list. You find much better deals on PPC apps as opposed to Palm apps. Some developers often offer 20%-50% off deals. I am on my second trial period of StyleTap. It's nice but to be honest I only use it for a few games. In order to use high resolution, you get a screen about half the size of full screen and conduits don't work.

I previously had moments throughout the day when I wished I had my UX50. I can honestly say that those thought are gone. Adding the ThinkOutside Bluetooth Mouse was a huge step.

So with the keyboard and mouse your really using as an almost true laptop replacement, huh? Could you post a picture or link of the sofware keyboard your talking about that so easily replaced your UX? Oh, how has the stability, battery life with videos, and VGA been in regards to program compatibility? I'm not switching but if the ALP isn't all its cracked up to be I might have to at least learn the ropes. Thanks for the info. I hope you still hang around the forums. Is there anything you still wish you had from Palm? :o

An onscreen thumb board, huh? I bet the screen gets a lot of finger prints, and it must take up a lot of screen real estate ;)

here's an image of Full Screen Keyboard...

Stability and battery life has not been an issue. VGA has worked fine with every app so far.

Looks cool
So does it make your screen dirty or do you use your finger nails? :)

You definitely get fingerprints on the screen. I typically only use it when I am walking around. I just clean the screen when it becomes noticeable. I did just find a new today theme/skin.

It's called Silverado VGA (http://www.4winmobile.com/pafiledb/images/screenshots/SilveradoPreview(256colorimage).png)

That skin looks very nice, but too crowded for my liking. ;)

Wow. Those are sick. That would have grabbed me like some weeks ago when I was looking for a replacement. I'm fine as it is right now. Glad you found your replacement.

Man, those look sweeeeeet. I really have to give WM5 a test run. Looks like the QVGA days of PPC and the darkside are a little bias. I love my palm but with skins/ themes like that and decent third party apps, their not half bad. Did I just say that? I must say I am impressed. To bad I have a mac. WM5 devices are not well suited for my environment to say the least. What else can you show/tell us to show off your device Glassman? I don't think i could use that keyboard as it is much too small compared to UX and obviously has no tactile feel. Are there any WM5 only apps that are cool or productive? How do the WM5 counterpart of palm programs feel/work?

I Like My UX50!

My brother has X50V as well. He's saying to me, "look I can play SNES games w/ NP!" He was playing Chrono Trigger, the last time. He also said that it's a VGA screen--not really ;) Atleast he believes that mine can play SNES too, LOL :)
