It looks like you can use this one either with the flip on or off.

It's lucky that in Hong Kong I bought one leather case similar to that in Brando's for HKD$150.

does the old T series pleather case from sony fit the tg50? I noticed that it has the same connectors on the back.

Does you know how the TG50 actually attaches to these case - is it with a velcro strip ??

And the other question: if you have a case like these, how does the speaker on the back work ??

All I'm looking for is something to protect it when I toss it in my briefcase and head overseas on a long flight. Would the Sony PEGA-CA100 be "good enough" ??

Thanks !!

No, it doesn't. There is just a tine difference in the connectors. My local CompUSA let me try it, and we broke it.

tried the T series leather cover just now .. it on bargain (RM 30/USD divide by 3.8) at sony wings KLCC.

Could not fit. its too small. TG50 is longer. the thingy fits together by two small connectors. (notice two small indentions right above the Clie logo in the back portion)

I bought the side fold Capdase leather case about 2 weeks back. The pics are seen in the nznznz's link above.

For nznznz and LukeToh -

So does it work? :)

Specifically, how does the TG50 attach to the case? By velcro or ?

And how does the flip-top "attach" to the case - does it slide in?

Lastly, can you HotSynch with the case on?

Thanks !!

Steve

For the Capdase case, it attaches on by plastic notches that fit into the bottom holes (beside the hotsync port) and the back 2 holes.

You insert the bottom 2 notches first, then one of the back notches and then squeeze the case slightly to "force" in the last notch. The PDA is thus held in by the 4 notches.

The side flip has a flap that protects the screen and buttons from the slots for credit cards and memory sticks.

Due to the leather flip of the case, the case cannot close nicely without removing the original TG50 flip (in my opinion). Hence, I use mine without the TG50 flip. Besides, it looks silly to open the leather case and flip once more on the TG50 case. Too many things flapping about. :)

The leather case is held close by a magnetic clasp which does it's job well. There is a slight curved indent at the location of where you would use the jog dial. This curve in the leather enables you to easily jog the dial when using the TG50. It's also not too curved...just nice for me. The TG50 cannot sit in the hotsync cradle with the case on. Hotsync is done via bluetooth or using the sub-attachment that came with the cradle. Charging is done with the sub-attachment as well.

The Capdase logo on the outside is made of metal.

Overall it's a very nice case, good feel. Worth the money (of course, since I bought one!) :)

Hi LukeToh -

Thanks for the detailed reply !!

In your opinion, which is "easier" to use: side flip or top flip ??

Are these available in the US ?? The link is to "onlinestore.com.hk" - meaning Hong Kong ?? On the other hand $7 for shipping to the US is great !! :)

Thanks again !!

You can found Capdase at ebay. Just make a search under 'TG50 leather'.

I found the leather case will affect the speaker volume, as you may anticipate.

Also, I think the Sony leather cases are much more bulky than the third-party ones.  I prefer the latter as it will be more handy and easier to open with one hand.

Hi MugWump,

Well, I think it depends on how you use the case. Eg. If you are going to rest it on a table, it would look nicer with a side flip. A top flip may appear a little "long" when laid on the table. However, if you will be holding it in your hands more often, then a top flip may be more convenient. Again, this depends on the user.

Ultimately, look at how you would use it more often and your own personal preference.

But I must warn you, that for me when using the side flip, I also removed the TG50's original plastic flip lid. This is so that the case closes nicely and appears thinner (not so bulky). You may not face this problem with the top flip case. I don't know, depends on how much "give" they have when you clasp it close.
