View Full Version : T415 Beaming Conundrum

I have a beaming conundrum. Bear with me as I explain it!

Every time I beam a datebook item from my T665 to my daughter’s T415 we get an error message “Cannot find application for Data Received”. (I am using Datbk5, she is not). Yet, I can beam to my wife’s Palm Vx and she can receive datebook items from me even though she is not using Datebk5.

If my wife’s Vx beams an appointment to my daughter’s T415 we get this error message “Data Received in Unknown Format”.

We can beam from the T415 (to either the Vx or the T665), and we can beam programs to the T415 from either the Vx or the T665.

So, the T415 cannot receive datebook items via beaming (it can receive To Do items, Memo items and Addresses).

Anybody got any ideas or suggestions?
(I have done a soft reset on the T415).
(I have done a search on Cliesource and reviewed many of the beaming threads).
(We are not running FastCPU or any overclocking programs).

As you probably know, Datebk5 uses the standard Palm Datebook database. There is no fundamental reason that the T415 should reject the beams. We need to look at non-standard things about that T415.

The OS generates that error when it can't find an app on the target device with the same creator ID or type to accept the data. That leads me to believe that something is interfering with Datebook on the device. Any hacks loaded? Did you use JackSprat on it?

This last one is a long shot given the error message, but have you tried running dbScan on the T415's datebook database? Like signs, sometimes errors don't mean what they say.

BTW, like your Floyd quote. Thought I'd something more to say...

Tanker Bob:

Thanks for the reply - I appreciate it. I will try disabling my daughter's hacks and see if that changes things. She is not using JackSprat.

Otherwise I am thinking Hard Reset and see what happens.

Congrats on recognizing the Floyd Quote! You are one of a select few :-)

OK - other things started going wrong with the T415, so I did a Hard Reset and, voila, it is back working again. I have no clue what the problem was, but beaming is working fine now.

Did you do a soft reset after disabling the hacks? What about other low-level system software that requires a soft reset after installing? Other apps that access the datebook database? Before doing a hard reset, try a warm reset (no-notify reset) by holding the page up while pushing the reset pin. If it works after that, the problem is definitely a software conflict.

Guess my last note was a little late. Glad it worked out.

Tanker Bob:

I actually did try a warm reset before the Hard Reset.

Thanks
