a codec is coder/decoder which means a way to convert digital signals to and from analog, or simply a way of reading a specific file, these can be both meant on video and audio files. i think the file format for a voice recording is .wav on clie, i forgot, and im surprised at why your computer doesn't have that codec, anyways just get winamp www.winamp.com and download their latest player and it should work.

I went there but not sure what I'm looking for.. I have a new lap top and it will play anything -but the sound file from the clie, and in window media player this is the error

An audio codec is needed to play this file. To determine if this codec is available to download from the Web, click Web Help.

but still can't find it ....

According to the NX80 application manual, the NX Clies record in IMA ADPCM format. This codec should be included in Windows, but if it's missing, you can follow these instructions to reinstall it.
