I realize this issue has been covered on these forums, and I do apologize if this is redundant, but I was unable to follow the directions I found for ad hoc wifi hotsyncing because they seemed to all be for Clie handhelds. I could follow them to a certain point, and then there was a menu option I did not have. Here's my question: is it possible to hotsync with a TX when you do not have a network? I believe it is, but I am not sure where I'm going wrong, and as I don't always have access to a network, this would be extremely useful, if anyone can help me. Thanks!
Ben

I'm gonna BUMP because I have the same question.

At home I have a wireless router and syncing/browsing was really easy. But i'm thinking about buying a 802.11 USB dongle to put in my work PC (no wireless network). Will my soon to be purchased T|X (use to have a Lifedrive) will be able to sync with that setup? Is web browsing possible with that setup?

I have set up an ad-hoc network in Windows XP and enabled internet connection sharing for it. I only have a USB dongle. It allows me to hotsync as well as access the internet through my PC. The most important steps are:

1. Go to "Network connections", open up the properties of your WLAN adapter and double click on TCP/IP. Set the following:
IP address: 192.168.0.1
(Subnet mask is automatically set to 255.255.255.0
DNS server: 192.168.0.1

2. Go to the "Wireless networks" tab and click "Add". Give your network a name, and check the ad-hoc option on the bottom. Next, choose "Open" as your "network authentication" and "WEP" as your encryption. Uncheck the "key is automatically provided" option below that and enter a network key consisting of 10 numbers. Click OK. That's it, you have now set up your ad-hoc network.

3. Still in "Network connections", right-click on your Internet connection and choose "Properties". Go the "Advanced" tab and enable the "Allow other network users to use this computer's network connection". Then click OK. Your Internet access is now shared and can be accessed through the wireless network. (You may need to reconnect to the Internet for this setting to take effect)

4. Right click on the Hotsync icon on the right part of the task bar, and choose "Setup". Go to the network tab and put a tick in front of your Palm user name. Next, click on "TCP/IP settings" and make sure the "Primary PC address" is set to 192.168.0.1 Click OK and then again OK.

5. Right click on the Hotsync icon again, and click on "Network" to enable network hotsyncing. If a Windows firewall alert comes up, choose "Unblock".

6. Now, turn to your Palm: Click on the Wifi icon on the status bar and search for wireless networks. It should find your network, with a lock icon next to its name. Click "Connect" and "Yes". Under "Security", choose WEP. Tap on the box next to "Key:". Choose "40 bit Hex" as your key type, and then enter the ten numbers you entered when setting up the network in Windows. Then tap on OK twice. Your TX will then connect to your computer. It will automatically be assigned an IP address.

7. Go to the Hotsync application. Choose "Network" and tap on the app window title. Tap on "Modem sync settings". There, choose "Network" and tap on OK. Under the hotsync button, tap on the dropdown field and choose "choose PC...". Tap "next". If it finds your PC, that's great because you can pick it directly. If not, tap on "Other..." and enter your PC's IP address (192.168.0.1). It is static, so it will always be the same. The tap on "Next" and "Finish".

8. Hurray! You can now tap the hotsync button to initiate a hotsync over your wireless network.

I hope all this is of some help. I am using Windows XP and Windows firewall. If you have installed another firewall, you may need to adjust its settings to allow the Palm to communicate with Hotsync manager. In ZoneAlarm, for instance, you have to set the security level for the "trusted zone" to medium at most.

Wow. I have been looking for the disappearing Network sync option since I got my TX. Thank you SO MUCH!

I did everything and the network seams to work, the signal is strong, but the browser always gives me a not found error and my hot sync doesn't work also.

What could it be?

Don't know why, maybe my TX got afraid after this post, but not a minute after this post everytihng started to work.

Now,
Q:what could it be?
A:As long as it works, I dont care.
