Four (4) days after getting my E2 (a backup unit for my TX) I was tapping the Star Icon (which I assigned to Calculator) and half my screen went Grey with multicolor lines (horizontal and vertical)..... I was at work and as the day progressed... a black feathering appeared under the glass top... just as it would do with a cracked LCD...
The "feather" has grown and now covers about 50% of my screen... I took it back to the retailer that I purchased it from (nameless in the City) and they told me they could not do anything for me... when I told them that the right side of the unit had been very difficult to respond to screen taps since day one, they said sorry, I should send it to Palm. I asked for the store manager and he said that they get no credit from Palm on a broken screen.. and I should send it back to Palm... I would have no trouble owning up to that if I had sat on it, dropped it, or otherwise damaged it myself but for this to happen with a screen tap with the stylus, there is obviously something else wrong with the PDA (or screen installation)...
I called Palm and was told that the screen was not covered and it would be over $100 to repair. There I was, 5 days into my purchase ($200) and looking at paying another $120 for a repair ...
I sent an email to the corporate office of the store I bought it from and got a response that I would be contacted by store management by phone within 48 hours.... 7 days later (after no contact) I called their 800 number and complained (as well as responding via email ) . The customer rep on the phone said "they should have taken care of this issue for you by now" and put me on hold to contact the store... (why not a 3-way call, I don't know)
She said the store manager would contact me personally and set a time for me to meet them to discuss my issue.... That was 3 weeks ago...
I have written this off to experience to not buy anything from this store again... I have many years of electronic purchases left (and I am a gadget addict) but will take my money to someone else..
I will play with a screen repair myself thru a replacement part from www.gethightech.com and at least save myself about half of the repair cost...
An expensive lesson....
