I traded my UX for a PSP and I just want to say thanks to hope for the great communication and the trust.

It's not just a value-for-value trade. It's the fact that I know the UX will be appreciated and used properly by another Clie fan. I don't want the UX's capability to be wasted... I guess only Clie users will understand that situation :)

For those going through a trade at 1src or even in other forums. I offer these tips:

1. Communicate - email or even call one another. This assures that both parties are serious with their offers.

2. Look at post counts - forums actually help determine how trustworthy a person is. Look through the posts of the person. No offense to new members but the fact is, new members have to build trust.

3. Ask around - This is optional but ask other members about the person you're going to trade with.

4. Mail at the same time - get insurance for the item or get a tracking number or both.

5. Do you really have to trade? - Trading is much different from selling so decide if you want to go through a trade in the first place.

Finally, understand that after the receipt of the item, it's nice to offer support but you don't have to be responsible about what happens next. After all, once the deal is done, the items are in the hands of new owners.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tips. You should make this an announcement that shows up in every forum or something to that effect :).

Trade...Hmmm?

I still have three UX50s that I have considered parting with. I am primarily using my Axim X51v. I still use one UX50 for my GPS though.

Very well written Joel. I would add to just make sure to follow those steps to the letter. I also can not stress the trust involved. I have been a member for almost 3 years and Joel is the co-founder. I don't think either of us could have asked for a better person to trade with, at least not me. The level of vulnerability is extremely high and each step Joel wrote is really key.

Glassman, why do you have 3 UX's. I can understand using 1, even partially, and then having another as a backup, but a 3rd? Is one of them broken?

The PSP was brand new and never even turned on with the new battery being shipped next to the PSP. I should hope the firmware is still below 2.00. I personally don't care for the homebrews but I respect the needs of whoever was going to get the PSP, in this case Joel, and I wanted to get a fresh one and let them decide what they would do. I think I got a great deal and I hope Joel does as well.

regarding f/w 2.00, just to make it clear, homebrew can be done 0n 2.01, 2.5 and 2.6, with the gta savegame buffer overflaw. sure you need to buy gta, but this game is worthy, and save you much later :p

Nope, none are broken. I bought one for myself and my wife liked it so I bought one for her...then after Sony's exit announcement I panicked and bought a spare...then I placed a low bid on a unit on EBay with wireless problems. I ended up winning the bid. I fixed the unit with a piece of tape on the WiFi chip and I use this unit with my GPS.

So actually I had four, but I sold my wife's to dragongames, because she never used it and I was building a theater room in the basement. I'll keep at least one, maybe two.

I admit I do have an addiction when it comes to technology and gadgets. Like I tell my wife, there are worse vices and this one keeps me at home. I have to find a new angle though, I've used that argument a few too many times and it doesn't seem to work as well.

I Like My UX50!

I think it is a fair trade--both of you guys got a good deal. I still prefer UX50 though ;)

I sold my PSP--got it as birthday gift so it was easier to part, I guess ;)--just a few months after it was released. That was before the emu seen really took off :(

The screen was awesome. I basically used it for lumines, RR, & music videos :)

UX50 goes great with the TR series notebooks. It's like they are tailored made for each other. Cool notebook, but very fragil--I broke 2 of them :(

...I basically used it for lumines, RR, & music videos :)...

Care to explain what the first two mean?
:D

TIA.

They are games for the PSP, RR is short for Ridge Racer. Kind of like tetris or mario kart for a gameboy. People forget there is actually really good games for the PSP and its not just for Homebrew.

Hope, do you have any suggestion for good PSP games? I realize this is off topic, but I just got a psp and I'm not sure what games I want to get right now. I was thinking ridge racer and wipeout pure look pretty good...and i like sports games so I might get MVP or Madden 06 and I don't really want to get GTA right now either (maybe when its cheaper). What other games do you consider good?

Almost all the EA games are good. I've played Madden and MVP and they are excellent. Need for Speed: Most Wanted is probably the best racing game with Midnight Street Club: Dub Edition a very close second. Prince of Persia, Lumines, and SoCom have all garnered their respects as they are excellent games as well. There are a few others I wanted to get that I don't remember and each month a set of new good games is being released. I really don't know why people are into the PSP for homebrew. If your going to spedn $250, get a GB micro and buy all the games you want. $150 worth of GB games will get you almost everything you want. Despite that, the movie experience, internet, and MP3 capabilities are very good as well. I will be getting another one but I really just don't have the time now and probably won't for the next 6 months. The trade was out of necessity and I'm glad it worked out so well. I'll be back in the PSP camp, its just going to be a while

I actually love the PSP's ability to play homebrew games. I downgraded my PSP so that I could play all the old games. It's not the gameboy games I'm as interested in as the old classics like SNES and NES and SEGA Genesis and such. I love playing those old games and being able to take them around with me is a really nice feature. I can fit so many of those old games on my PSP 32mb card. I actually enjoy some of the old classic, bad graphic games more than the new ones. I can sit down and play the older ones for a lot longer time than I can play the new ones. Besides, the web browser isn't very useful in my mind right now. Navigation and typing are horrible with the PSP after using my ux for internet. I figured there was no point to leave the emulators and homebrew and get a web browser I don't need.

I can understand that. But, at the same time, without updating the PSP you can not play the newest PSP titles with which the PSP is made for. People underestimate the quality of the current line of PSP games. Why didn't all these PSP owners who only play homebrew games buy a Tapwave Zodiac, it would do the same thing and cheaper. As far as the internet browser, if you just type in you usual websites and keep them as bookmarks it is very enjoyable. Its tedious at first to enter the website but once their in, the screen and overall navigation is good. I would say the PSP is a waste of money for homebrew only users and the money would be better spent on a Zodiac with 32mb built in on the cheaper one, 128mb on the higher end one, better internet navigation, bluetooth, Palm OS, and dual SD slots.

Yea I see your point. There are now newer psp firmware versions being worked on for homebrew too though, so updating for games shouldn't be a problem. I think their are also apps like version changer that trick the psp into thinking its a higher firmware version so you can play those games. With the web browser, I'm always searching google, or searching ebay for things. Most of the sites I go to require text entry, besides ones like 1src (unless I'm posting). I'll see what happens. I really like the psp as a gaming machine anyways. I already have gameboys, a gameboy advance, etc. I just decided to continue with the flow and get the next handheld gaming machine that appealed to me. By the way, does anyone have any idea how good quality this is: http://cgi.ebay.com/Memory-Stick-Duo-converter-for-PSP_W0QQitemZ8257035354QQcategoryZ62053QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

JA said he tried the Neo 2in1 converter which was very cheap quality. I was thinking of getting this one on ebay for my ux memory sticks, but I'm not sure what the quality would be like.
