What do you all use for IM clients?
I need something that works over the WL100, and would like something that does hi-res+ and Yahoo (I couldn't find a client at yahoo.com, but I've heard it's available???). A multi-protocol client would be best, but I don't think I like verichats setup. Is there a Jabber client?

Great question, as someone who is getting his NX wifi setup this week (hopefully, if it comes it) what is a good IM client that preferably works with yahoo?

I use AOL AIM v1.1 the free version.
Most seem to use Verichat, but never have tried it myself.

I found a copy of yahoo messenger for the palm os, what are the chances of it working with os5 over wi-fi?

I'd say your chance are quite good since AIM 1.1 was released ages ago before OS 5 and works. Also, I've noticed AIM 1.1 is no longer avialable for free. The bastards want $19.95. Glad I still have it ;)

There is also an ICQ (http://www.icq.com/download/ftp-palmpilot.html) version for palm o/s.

I saw icq, but considering I currently use yahoo on my pc I was hoping to find something that would work with it.

I use Verichat. Handles all four of the big networks, (AIM, ICQ, Y!, MSN). It does indeed cost some money, but it's a pretty decent app. This is not Hires+ or even Hires though.
I think it would be great if some companies could put out updated IM software that is tweaked for today's Hires/OS5 devices. We have the Tungsten T, Tungsten C, Tungsten W, TG50, NZ90, and NX all with wireless conectivity. Not to mention some OS5 smartphones. I can choose between 10 different launchers, but have to chat with my friends though the same clunky old software.

latest version of verichat is hires but not yet hires+. if it were i'd certainly buy it, but currently it doesn't make use of a good portion of the screen.

Hey, I downloaded the latest Verichat and installed over my older, licensed version, and found nice improvements in features. Thanks.

I e-mailed them yesterday asking about hires+ and improved jog dial support. They quickly replied that they are currently working on both. Now I'm excited!

Are you using the power save mode when in class?

No powersave, and I have been on Verichat for well over an hour. The backlight is off though.

Just the backlight is off. The screen is still on the whole time.
I close the lid sometimes, but only for about 3 minutes today.

For the record the yahoo one doesn't work, I can load, connect but it never brings up a buddy list and you can't add people. Oh well.

I use Yahoo for personal email, but allot of people i IM with use AIM or MSN. I have AIM and ICQ too, but Verichat is nice if you occasionally wanna use more than one service, in addition to the one you use the most. I was just starting to use IM when I got the NX, so it was good to get something that would allow me to try it out and see who I would be IM with and on what.

It is really an amazing program. And I'm so proud that I have not installed any AOL software on my computer at all (excluding Winamp....) Now if they can get webcam support on Yahoo better, then it will be bliss.

I have tried ICQ, MSM MEssenger Force and Verichat - will try AOL AIM soon. I found that Verichat covers more of the IMs services, MSN interface is similar to the desktop MSN and was vert simple to sue (and reliable). One thing I do not like is that the annual cost they charge can be changed at any time and there is no limit on possible increase
OcellNuri

I have no use for their "always online" service, so I would just not pay the annual charge. I don't want people sending me messages when I'm not around a WiFi network. That feature is geared more towards Treo, TungstenW, and Samsung users.

Is Trillian the only multi-service IM program out there for the Clie?
What drew you to it, Ocell? I'm reading their verbiage and it's light on details and heavy on hype.
Not to mention tragically lacking in paragraph breaks...

Ocell - how reliable is Trillian? How is the support? Have you used it on all the different services?

I've been a Trillian user for about a year and absolutely love it. The biggest asset is ENCRYPTED AIM sessions!!! This is always good when using it inside your corporate firewall where they can monitor IM traffic. Other features include session/conversation logs, multiple user profiles, skins, emoti-sounds, file transfers, and window transparency (so you can leave the window up all the time and still get your work done).
Oh, but, uh, I don't think it runs on Palm OS

So does Trillian work on the Clie NX70V? Reading some of these posts suggested that.
Ocell - are you running on a Clie?

Trillian is not for PalmOS. It is only Windows right now. Trillian got into this thread because Verichat offers much of the same functionality of Trillian, but on the PalmOS platform. So basically, Verichat is the closest thing to Trillian for the Palm.
I have been using Trillian for about two years now. It is excellent. Give version 0.74 a try, it is free! If you really like it (as I did) and want more features, then purchase Trillian Pro 1.0. I use Several AIM names, ICQ, Two MSN, and two Yahoo names all at once. Still just a few querks and bugs, but hopefully the team is working on fixing them.

I have a question about Verichat. I was looking in the prefs and it has prefs for how it alerts you when you get a message while in other applications. Can you stay online while using another application without using the SMS service?
bucalo9
06-12-2003, 08:44 PM
What ever your signed on state is, that's the way it stays till you change it. I had many times turned off my Clie without signing off, only to find hours later when I turn on my NX, to find I was receiving IM's.
When you move from Verichat to another program, the Proxy keeps you connected. When you return, it re-connects you where you left off.
The latest version can even start Verichat and connect you automatically, when you always turn on your Palm.

Please make this Hires+ Pdaapps! This will make the killer application with a NX80 (with BT... I hope) and a Sony T608 phone. Of course, I bet it's even more "killer" for a Treo or Samsung Smartphone.
