OK, since the 'great crash' lost info on DAs, I thought a discussion might be good, both to help new NX owners and for reference purposes.

Desk Accessories (DAs), are tiny little programs that will pop up over whatever program you're currently in. Kind of multi-tasking for Palm OS . . .

I'm currently experimenting with McPhling as a DA launcher. It works VERY well, but there are also a number of other launchers that work well with OS5. You can find many at Palm Gear.

Currently, the only DA I'm using is CalCal, which is a pop-over calculator. HERE (http://www.palmgear.com/software/answer_category.cfm?categoryIDs=146) is a link to the DA section at PalmGear.

What launcher are you using, and what DAs?

jomoco5,

Interesting. I tried several DA's, and the only one that wouldn't crash or act "wierd" was CalCal. I'll try some others and let you know.

By the way, I am using McPhling to launch the DA's. I have McPhling's "Actication" set to my "Capture" button on my NX70V (defined by selecting "Cutom" in McPhling's Activation preferences screen). Pressing the capture button brings up a pop-over list of pre-defined/frequently-used apps. I keep the Voice Recorder, Clie Camera, and Clie Movie Recorder apps (among others) defined here, so I am just a button-press away.

Also, "TealTools" are considered DA's, but they are not all stable on the NX series.

The only DA I used regularly on my OS4 devices was VolumeDA, but with the tappable volume icon on the NX status bar, I don't feel I need this anymore. I did test HRCaptDA for taking screenshots, using McPhling as my DA Launcher, and it worked just fine.

Been doing some experimenting, and I've been quite successful getting DAs to work on my NX. I'm using McPhling as my launcher.

So far, daMemoPad, LClipDA, ConversionDA and CalCal all work flawlessly.

Anybody tried any others and gotten them to work?? I've been playing with the ones I mentioned for the past week, and haven't had a single issue. Guess it's time to download some more . . . heh

I noticed that HRCaptDA was up to version 1.76 now, and that it was meant to work with OS 5, but didn't know for certain if it really would. Thanks for letting us know, I'll add that in to my tutorial on it.

Cheers.

I use McPhling to launch them, using the jog up to get a popup list. Ones I use that are working fine on my NX60 include:

Caledar DA (actually, a popup caleNdar)
EZConvDA (a units converter)
CalCal
CallLookup DA
CopyDA (wonderful app!)
PasteDA (related to previous)
daMemoPad
DTMF DA
SHChangerDA (show/hide records)
ToUpper DA (essential, IMHO)
VolumeDA
WClockDA

I think I tried BookmarkDA but it didn't seem to work as I remembered, so I deleted it.

Does anyone know what has happened to yamakado's DA site? It used to be a really nifty site with just about all the DAs available on one site.

Cheers. I need to make an addendum here. My earlier comment was about v1.7, and it didn't quite work perfectly. The screen looked perfect, but the status bar had the colors distorted. I just downloaded v1.76, and it works perfectly for everything.

BatteryDA, BizCardSwitch, ezConvDA and SimpleClockDA work fine on my NX70V.

I use DA Launcher v5.0b6 to use them, this works great as well.

I got a PM requesting a d/l site for CalCalDA (it's a neat little pop-up calculator).

CalCal can be found HERE (http://www001.upp.so-net.ne.jp/h-yama/da/index.htm) It's listed under calculators (I can't post a direct link as the page uses frames...)

Enjoy! =)

Can someone point me to a copy of HRCaptDA? I couldn't find it on PalmGear.

ToUpper DA (essential, IMHO)
what does this DA do ?

I actually use daMemoPad, CalCal and LinfoDA

I mapped them to the keyboard on my TG50 and they do great job
e.g. if I'm in wordsmith or quicksheet and need to do some really quick calculating I just press alt+c => and I have calculator whereas I can look at the content
the Linfo is great while you are using any other apps (e.g. netfront which takes a little bit to run from ms for just checking time/date/battery status)

and finaly da Memopad .. I use it pretty often when recorgind something wit voice recorder, it's great combo, I can record lectures, classes as well as my meetings with clients + I can take notes simltaneously

I wish snappermail was DA capable .. or there was some plugin for "background" email checking ..
