View Full Version : HACKS and your NX70v

OK. Since we lost everything in 'the great crash' I thought this might be a helpful topic for all the new NX owners, as well as an excellent spot to refer people to in the future.
First of all, so far, there is ONLY one option for using hacks on the NX70v, and that is with
TEALMASTER (http://www.tealpoint.com/softmstr.htm) (Click on name to go to the website)
The only hack I used, that worked at all was PageDownHack (available at PalmGear).
What hacks do you use, or have you found to be compatible with the NX?

JogPage Hack, is freeware at Palmgear, developed by Blue Nomad. It allows me to page the screen in apps like McFile, YiShow, ZLauncher, Acid Image and a whole host of others.
Of course it has to used with Tealmaster :)

I'm using TealGlance and TealLaunch . . . with TealMaster. Also using TealLock & TealPhone. One of these days my Clie will change colors to teal :)

Anyone know if I can remap the capture button with tealmaster? I would like to use it for address lookup. It would also be nice if I could use pop-up names, which is almost like multi-tasking.

TealMaster is just a hack "host" like Hackmaster itself; you'd need TealLaunch (or a similar hack) to remap buttons/strokes. I just checked TealLaunch, and while it does allow you to remap the back and jog buttons, there's no option for remapping the capture button

Oh, well.
I had become used to one hand-operations on my visor prism and thought I may set up my NX for the same.

what about any Switch hacks?? like the ones where you can switch from one prog to another without going to the launcher first? kinda like an alt-tab for the palm. does anyone know if that works with os 5 somehow?
rldunn

Well, the developer of McPhling created an OS5 version of it that is a stand-alone app, and it works great. You should check it out.

Also, I posted this in another thread, but with all the activity in this forum, it kinda got buried. :)
For those that used ClearHack or NoLinesHack on pre-OS5 devices, there is now an alternative. Download a freeware app called Colorize, made by the developer of Handyshopper. It's similar to Khroma, allowing you to change colors of things like the title bar and menu. Using this app, choose the color layout you like best, then hit the Edit button. Go to the Field tab and set the color of 'Lines' to be the same as the color of 'Background'. Both of mine are set to white, and now I don't have any visible lines!!

What about MidCap Hack ?
The one where auto-cap your characters if your graffiti crosses the Alpha/Num boundary ?

MiddleCapsHack didn't even work on the NR, due to the virtual graffiti, so I'm sure it doesn't work on the NX. I missed it at first, but I'm so used to using the keyboard now that I forgot all about it.

McPhling can be used to remap the capture button and any other buttons, its really nice.

Well you can try MemHack its got a little cap program attached.
I also heard through the grape vine that someone is working on a cap program for OS5...
Hopefully it will be available soon...

anybody remember those old backlight switch hacks from the days of old grayscale palms? the ones that would switch the green backlight to light up the opposite things on the screen instead of the background? i wonder if that would do anything on a color screen. doubt it but it would be cool

the best thing about mcphling is changing the behavior of the purposeless silk screen button. i have mine going back to the previously used app.

Okay...
On the topic of hacks, I have a question.
Actually its a DA question... but still.
Im using the TealEdit, and TealCalc DAs. Cant use the TealHack as a DA launcher for some reason it crashes a LOT. Im using PowerDA instead... thats not the real problem though... I like PowerDA
So this is an NX70v... It seems to me that when I use TealEdit a file is created in my RAM. Under Filez it shows up as tdTO with a creator ID of todo. For whatever reason... once this file is created, its impossible to hotsync the todo list entries... So.. I delete this file... hotsync is okay... untill i use TealEdit again... the darn lil tdTO file is back
I cant figure out why this file is there. or why the creator ID id todo. As a workaround... i stopped deleting the file and changed the creator id from todo so now it is f*ck (i was frustrated) although im sure any 4 letter word would do.
now i can hotsync all the time with no problems... the file remains this way... the file is only 108b so i can deal with it being there... i just want to know why, etc.
Is this a demo problem? the version of TealEdit im using is 1.10.05
Will it go away if I buy a Reg code? I still have to click that lil "trial software" popup thing with the delay and whatnot. I dont think its worth buying if its gonna make weird little files on my clie that conflict with software thats already there.
The friend of mine I got the trial from has never mentioned this happening. It doesnt seem any different from the demo I downloaded from the tealsoft website, etc.
anyone had this problem? if so... whats the deal?
Ok hack guru's maybe you could help a newbie here.
I run the OS5 Clie Launcher Group and not the sntandard view. It would be perfect for my needs if I could swap the function of the jog dial with the Up & Down arrows in this view. So jog would shift the little upper left hand window through the applications groups and the Up & Down arrows would move the selection within the group.
Is this possible with a "hack"? (And how do you use hacks?)
Thanks alot, really impressed so far with the flexibility of these little things.

I had to email him so I could get a new registration code. If your a registered owner there should be no problem getting the new code. It no longer needs a hack manager to run MiD and it's never worked better. The app is located right in the middle of his web page:

Hacks need a hack manager like Tealmaster for Palm OS5 devices, the others won't work on OS5. A majority of the hacks are no longer functional under Palm OS5.
I use JogPage Hack on my NX70 to page my Z-Launcher screen and for many other apps, I don't use the stock Sony launcher and the hacks don't work there, including LauncherX.
Okey is a nice little hack that doesn't need a hack manager and I believe it's still freeware.

I agree, Okey is very nice. Like a combo of PageDownHack and PowerJog that were available for OS4 devices, plus the sticky keyboard functionality, which was never available on the NR!!

You can press the back button to shift the application group and when you press the jog dial, it will shift the application within that group.
Well Mr Unregistered thankyou very much!
Those Sony boys are way ahead of me it seems!
Really, thanks, that's perfect! You depress the jog to go into that group and scroll from there.......wonderful.
Yipeeeeeee
Just thought to revive the hack discussion. Any new hacks known to work.

PLHack doesn't work... :(
I use this hack a lot on my old N710C
So it looks like DAs work. Is there a specific launcher that is needed or will any do?
Didnt anyone see my tips :p

I was using a hotsync/charge USB cable for my NX60, but it wasn't working very well...battery wasn't getting charged each time. (Think the cable was bad).
Rather than purchase another cable, I used the adapter and hooked my Clie up to the charger that comes with the cradle. I also have a Cybershot digital camera, so I took the USB cable from that, plugged it in to the adapter and started a sync by tapping on the hotsync icon on the Clie. I missed the ability to push a button and start the sync, so I used TealLaunch and mapped the jog dial to initiate a hotsync when it's held. Perfecto!

BTW, that doesn't work if Jog Page hack is enabled.

Cool:) Thanks
Looks like Call Lookup DA and ezConvDA do not work on the OS5. I'm really sad that Call Lookup does not work. That is a very good one. On the other hand it looks like ResetDA, StopwatchDA and SystemAnalyzerDA all work:)

Yes, I had some that did not like OS5. It is a bummer. I just wonder why some do and some don't . . . doesn't make much sense, unless the ones that don't aren't written 'by the rules' . . . ;)

Newb looking for ways to enhance 1-hand operation. I've got Okey and love it. McPhling sounds very interesting. But, will it disrupt Okey's Jog Dial functionality, i.e., hold-down Jog to enable scroll-through of objects?

This works on a OS5 unit?
I see it was created 6/13/2001.
Way before OS5 ever was thought of or mentioned in the Palm community.

DAs that were written more according to the rules set by Palm and the SDK will usually work fine under OS5. DAs are coded and work exactly like any other application for Palm OS -- just their entry point is different.

anyone have a hack to get rid of the lines on text progs such as notepad?
like nolineshack for os4.

Well I use a app. called Colorize.
Its a app. that will allow you to customize the colors and create themes.
There is a tab called Field up top and on that screen you will see a field called Lines.
if you change the color from black to white it will remove the dotted lines.
Now this is a freebie and can be found @ PalmGear.com or I think in the apps/files section of ClieSource.
Hope this helps.

What about a hack to use the screen in landscape mode. I had a hack on my old handspring platinum that allowed you to rotate the screen 90 degrees, although the screen was square which might make things less complicated...
