Hey,
I'm a college student and I was wondering if I would benefit more from a UX50 than from the NX80v I currently own.
With the UX50, I'll have built in wifi and bluetooth so I can browse the internet on campus as well as wirelessly sync with my laptop via bluetooth. In addition, I like the larger keyboard and the landscape screen seems more internet friendly. Also I was reading how people can use the VZ media launcher or the th-55 clie organizer on the ux50 which seems appealing.
Right now, I have an NX80v by itself but I just ordered a WL 100 card on ebay. Would it be wiser to just sell everything in favor of a UX or just keep what I have?
Thanks,
I would say the NX80 is the best PDA without any wireless abilities. I personally hate any addons and its in my opinion that features should be built in. As such, the NX80 is an amazing PDA with almost everything you could imagine. I'm even planning on getting one for coverage as the combination of keyboard, voice recorder, and great camera/camcorder are unrivaled by any device even today.
As far as your needs and the UX50, it could almost replace your laptop. I wrote 4, 10 page papers on the UX while laying on the couch listening to MP3's and countless edits of other papers. I put videos on there to kill time and was able to access the internet anywhere on campus with WiFi. I used DTG to its fullest, took notes, used the camera, and on and on and on. I used it as a laptop for about a year and a half until I actually got a laptop. I ended up selling the UX about 3 months after buying the laptop as they kind of competed with each other. I really didn't use it as a digital assistant which is why I classify the UX in its own category. Its also why I say the TH is the best all around PDA. My needs currently are different and I am getting the UX again so as you can tell I reallly did love it.
I would say that in your situation the UX50 would allow you to get more work done and be more efficient. I'm sorry as you just bought the WL100. Just my 2 cents. If you describe in detail what your needs are then maybe others and myself can make a better assessment but being a student in todays schools, you will really take advantage of al the UX has to offer. Hope I helped.

I'd say that if you can find an EB40 or don't mind keeping it plugged in, the UX is the way to go. The all-in-one package makes it the ultimate device. Keyboard, dual-wireless, media capabilities. I've modded my UX so I can enjoy it at its full potential so I might be a little biased. The UX has bad battery life for wireless or intense use.
Overall, I too have written papers on it while on the train or walking down a hallway in school.

I luckily kept my EB from my last UX. If you don't use wireless the battery life is not that bad from what I remember. I was comfortably able to write my papers and listen to music without worrying about the battery. Using WiFi or watching video is a whole other story. That does require an extra battery. Again, I sold my UX before the battery had a chance to start fading so someone like JA has a better perspective than I would.
It's good to point out that the battery life of the NX80 is extremely good. It's only second to the TH55 in clies in the US and only third when including the VZ90. Where as the UX does has one of the worst battery lifes of almost any PDA. Though, the EB40 attachment really saved it from the scrutiny the T3 received with its poor battery life. Also, the imaginative ways JA and others have come up to extend the battery life of the UX, I believe, have really relieved the UX from it battery woes.

To give you an idea of my battery life. I can go 9 hours without charging and viewing like 60 minutes worth of video @ 25 % brightness and have more than 80% battery life left. I can go 9 hours listening to music every so often at 1% brightness and have 100%.

I would get a UX50 and keep the NX80. The problem with the UX is the battery life (without the EB40). With the EB40, you will be fine :)

I have a UX50 and previously the NX80....I much perfered the NX80 due to screen size and battery. The UX50 has a better keybord and built in WIFI instead of a card.
Starting over the NX80 hands down.......
I too have had both. It really does come down to wireless needs, like I said. If you use WiFi and bluetooth, the NX80 is not an option. If your needs do not consist of these features the NX80 is the better choice. My friend bought the NX80 after I consulted him and his needs did not consist of using a PDA with wireless at all. Basic PIM stuff, a camera, and a voice recorder suit him perfectly as it would most people. In addition to the battery life, keyboard, and great screen. But, having to add accessories for WiFi and bluetooth make it poor if these are needs of a buyer. So, know your needs and you'll know which one to get.
I must point out though that if text entry is your main concern, the keyboard on the UX is at least 10x better and the UX would be a better canidate. That's the biggest reason I'm getting another one. All other areas (minus wireless), the NX is better.
